Lofting along curve path?

Hi there.

Is it possible to loft along a path curve? Here's the scenario:

complex_shape.jpg

- the path curve is the one with the green arrows

- the curves to loft are the 4 semi circles

I know how to loft - it's along a path curve that's eluding me...

Select the semicircle and your path.  Use the Surfaces->Extrude command.  You can play around with the settings as needed...

Extrude doesn't loft different curve shapes...

Not sure what you mean by "different curve shapes."  I am able to extrude semicircular nurbs curves along a selected curve.

The first 2 semi circles are different from the last 2. The result should be this:

So is that picture something you found somewhere that you are trying to recreate?

I think what you're looking for is the birail tool. (in surfaces -> Biral -> Birail 3+ Tool)

It's not exactly as simple as selecting your profile curves and then the path curve though. Instead you have to create two 'rail' curves which intersect at each end of the profile curves (think train tracks instead of monorail).

I just found this video on how to use the tool:

It's a lengthy video, but you can probably skip to 9.30.

Hope this helps!

I would be interested to know if there is an easier way to do what you want.

Simply: Biral 2 tool.
