Dynamic Rigging

Hello all!

I have a question to do a rigg in 3ds max. I saw a demo reel of Christoffer Pedersen and there is a thing i really like to do, but i don't know how....
It's there: https://vimeo.com/69478233

The interesting thing (even if this demo is fun) is the head with tentacules. Do you know how to do this in 3ds max? I tried with mParticules, it didn't work. I tried with flex modifier, it didn't work too.

Thanks for your answers!!!
Have a nice day!

There us no in viewport, realtime dynamics in max, looks cool but not very useful.

Use flex or spring controllers. If using flex you would use it on a spline. I did that in her hair that you can see in the link below.

Thanks for your answer, but how manage the "auto" collision with his own mesh? I tried to use the deflectors panel of flex modifier but my mesh didn't react very well. Is there any parameters to put on for doing it without problems?

Thanks

The one that you see in Maya isn't doing it either as far as I can tell. There is no good way with Flex, it will work with deflectors but they can't be deforming. I find that it doesn't work really well even with the non-deforming ones. You could also run it as a simulation that drives the rig. This will not have any sort of real time feed back at all in the viewport. Again I think that it is always over rated any ways as any sort of dynamics sim in the viewport will be slowing it down and animators will want it turned off.

For the character in my movie I'm using spherical deflectors linked into the head, shoulders and neck of the character. I think there were four of them.
