Square foot symbol?

There is a user who wants to use a square foot symbol that looks like a square with a line going through it (from the top to the bottom). We used to use a fancy font style that had this symbol in place of `. Now, we switched over to simplex, and they refuse to type Sq.Ft. Is there a way to get this special symbol, or perhaps an updated simplex?
Thanks
Nick

This does nothing. Is there a listing of all the special characters that can be created this way ??

It doesn't work for you? Are you sure you are
holding the alt key the whole time, and typing in 0178 on the numeric keypad?
Are you using a laptop or other custom keyboard?

These are located in the character map -

Start...Programs...Accesories...System
Tools...

It's not part of the standard install for win98,
but it's on the cd. I believe it is in typical install for NT
products.

Using MTEXT type: test2^, highlight 2^, then select STACK.

The Simplex SHX that ships with AutoCAD does not
have

the subscript 2, so the 0178 won't
work.

A square foot symbol can be added to any of the
standard fonts.

The Unicode Consortium has added the square foot
symbol at

location u23CD, but very few fonts have
it.

try to decompile the shx of your font, then add lines below, you can change
the ' *130 ' if you want, then recompile the shp to shx

type ' %%130' to use.

look at acad help for more

*130,21,sqft
2,8,(3,1),1,8,(2,3),0B0,0D4,0D8,0DC,020,8,(11,16),2,8,(5,-20),0

That works fine on most TrueType fonts, but many commonly used .shp/.shx
files don't contain all of the ALT+xxxx characters.

Alt keys do not work with all fonts

Seems to me that if the users don't want to type Sq.Ft. (assuming because of
the extra keystrokes), all this talk about Alt + this + that is more work
than Sq.Ft.

You're right - tell them they have to type the whole thing out: "Square
Feet", then typing Sq. Ft. won't be so bad...
