There's no technically legitimate reason that prevents
parallel access to discussion groups via NNTP and HTTP,
other than perhaps that Autodesk has chosen to use
what amounts to Java-based garbage for their HTTP
interface, that makes them the laughing stock of the
software industry.
My guess is that Autodesk no longer wants to support
peer-to-peer support, because they regard paid support
as a source of revenue (create products that require far
more support than should be necessary and then, in very
parasitic fashion, profit from that), and because history has
clearly shown that Autodesk seems to regard sabotage as
a legitimate business tool, that's essentially what they're
doing to peer-to-peer support and the discussion groups.
They already know most of us will have no part of it,
and that's pretty much what they're counting on.
What the fools that are responsible for this decision failed
to consider are the social-oriented side-effects of this move,
and if you don't mind, I will not get into that aspect, because
I would very much prefer to see them end up having to reap
what they sow.
So, to summarize, Autodesk would like to make it far more
difficult for you to get the help and support of your peers,
and this looks like a slimy, underhanded means to that end.

Do you access these newsgroups with a newsreader?
Autodesk is pulling the plug on NNTP access soon.
