nesting algorithm??

does anyone have any pointers for a nesting algorithm for odd shapes or
rectangular shapes to fit closely together within a sheet of a specific
size?

If you Google "packing algorithm," you'll get many, many hits in Deep
Science. Most of them have to do with circles and spheres, few with
rectangular shapes, vanishingly few with irregular shapes. I am sure
that your time would be far better spent eyeballing a Pretty Good
Solution and getting on with the job than in trying to code this.

Now, if you have to do this 100,000 times a year, or your sheet is
quarter-inch titianium, that is another matter...

it isn't easy to dvelope a efficent algorithm for automatic nesting or layout, there are deep mathmatic and programming skills involved. if you want to have this function in a easy way , look for it from a library provider is a good choice. here is a nesting SDK provider I know.http://www.nestprofessor.com/download/NestProfessorDev2.3.zip
