Menus

I made some custom toolbars for my company with some custom macros strings
and special buttons on them. I saved them as their own menu group, and
loaded them onto our workgroup's PCs by copying the .mnc file and all of the
corresponding bitmaps into each Support folder , and loading with MENULOAD.
On one PC, the .mnc will absolutely not load no mater what I do. Is there a
better way to migrate custom toolbars, or is there a system setting that
would keep that one PC from loading up the menu?
Thanks in advance.

Why didn't you use the MNS file rather than the MNC?

Actually I used both, the final version that I ended up installing on
everybody's PCs was a .mnc, and I tried both on the one that didn't work.
(copied in from a working machine) Does it matter, besides being easier to
edit?

Recently there has been many discussions on Base Menus and Partial Menus and
.mns vs. .mnu etc...... Search this group, I'm sure you will find enough
information to answer your questions.

this is just a general post that i have made and saved... hope this helps..
it is wise if you were to create your own mnu file with your name. follow
these steps:

1) i would create your own folder in the "my documents" folder so you can
save your bmp files and a back up of your mns file.
2) copy all bmp from your acad2000i folder to this new folder. remember, you
will need them to use with your toolbars.
3) now i would locate and open (by clicking it) the acad.mns file. do a save
as and save it to your new folder and call it MyName.mnu
4) now in that file you will see this
***MENUGROUP=ACAD
rename that to
***MENUGROUP=MyName

now i would remove everything from this file with the exception of the
toolbar section... highlight all text before ***TOOLBARS hit backspace.
highlight all text after and including
//
// Begin AutoCAD Image Menus

hit backspace to erase all the text...

5) save it and copy it you your AutoCAD 2000i\support folder

in A2Ki you then will need to load this menufile using the menuload
command...

then i would close all the autocad toolbars and use all of yours. remember
that when you create a new toolbar to do it your menu not the autocad file..
this will then create (or update) the mns file.. this is the latest and
greatest version of the mnu file that you saved in the "my documents\my
folder"

if this does not make sense, ask me and i will try to explain better..

This seems fine (except for the contentious issue of mns vs mnu - I prefer
mns) but if I read correctly, Matt wants to distribute his mnc file?
Perhaps as a company menu that can't be altered by the user?
I remember doing this with mnx files back in release 11, is there still a
way to do it now?
cheers
Steve

Thanks everybody, my main problem was, does anybody know why one particular
PC would not load the new menus? Overall I have good success migrating the
menu to most of the workstations. I also was curious if you could do it by
transferring the *.mnr, as "HELP" said that the bitmaps were contained in
that file, and I thought that could be more convenient than copying 20 new
bitmaps into all the support folders. It doesn't seem to be so, though.
