compiling *.shp files

I keep getting the same error when I try to compile a *.shp file.

Compiling shape/font description file
Bad shape definition at line 1 of
F:\SEDCO_HR\Wind_Project\pnwwind50m\pnw_50mwindnouma.shp:
Expected '*n,len,name' shape header

Any help or Advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Well, what does line 1 of the shape file say?

The error message is expecting particular data and is not seeing it.
Why not post the line?

I have had this happen before. It frustrated me so much I just forgot about and tried to find a workaround. The situation that really confused me was that I took a .shx and decompiled it add a new character. Well, when I recompiled it gave me a response much like Jester's. I then took the native .shp I had decompiled from the .shx and attempted to recompile it. No go...? I couldn't understand why a perfectly working .shx wouldn't recompile. I am interested to see where this post goes.

Funny....I could always post mine if Jester doesn't. I have had a funny suspicion on mine it is that it interferes with UUENCODE values. We orginally compiled this many versions ago and I think that AC R15+ doesn't like the original values in in the .shp. Who knows....I bet Rob might though.

Shape file is in CF.

I compiled the file in cf without errors using TuFer. Did you post the
troublesome file?

Yessir. I had two similar named files in my development directory. I compiled, or rather attempted to, both of the files. One compiled the other did not. I am compiling from the command line. Is TuFer a third party stand alone? That might be something for me to look into.

Nope. TuFer is a nickname for A2k4 (AutoCAD 2004). Sorry for the confusion.

It will in the ADT group, I bet. Of course, Bobby was the one that came up
with this one!
