Why is VB.net not available when AutoCAD 2010 is installed?

I have used lisp & VBA for a few years to make custom drafting tools.
Now it seems like Autodesk is making upgrading to VB.net difficult because
it is not installed with AutoCAD.

In the past I used VBA & Lisp I ran autoCAD. I built my programs when I had some free time.
I used VBA and Lisp becuse it was available when AutoCAD was running.

Today to upgrade to VB.net a user must install the MS express editions
and add links to AutoCAD. If the majority of your work is Drafting on Cad,
your employer may not allow these additional programs & links for VB.net

So that is the reason I am staying with vba & Lisp at this time. Athough I prefer
to use and learn the net programs. It is not possable until it is included in AutoCAD
installation product.

You seem to be confused.

VBA will not ship with Autocad 2010.
It's available as a separate download.

Autodesk wants you to stop using VBA, period, stop.
Microsoft has discontinued VBA it's a dead product.

Microsoft is replacing VBA with VSTA.
Autocad currently doesn't support it.

You are confusing .NET with Visual Studio.
Visual Studio has never shipped with Autocad.
You will have to install Visual Studio.NET to program; but it's not required for a user.

.NET was included, and 2008 has 2.0 and 2010 with 3.5

Yes, VBA can be installed with 2010 and that process is easy.
VBA is included with previous versions.

If you want vb.net with these programs you must install vb.express from microsoft on a machnine
with AutoCAD. Then you must install AutoCAD.net wizzard then add code to get the programs
working.

For drafting your employer may not want you the add all these Net.programs on their server for a few routines.
A user needs those Net programs installed and linked when autocad is installed.

Thank you,

You need to install the redistribution package
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en

not visual studio.

Stupid question time: if you were hired to draft (more likely design, these days), then why should you be writing software on the companies dime? If you just want to learn on your own time/lunchtime, great - let IT know and maybe they will let you install it. Otherwise, not having it isn't going to impact you *that* much from a job perspective. It should be much faster to punch in the simple improvements via LISP anyways.
