Thin Client (2014 and 2015) - Rendering DWF the same as AutoCAD360

Thin Client (2014 and 2015) - Rendering DWF the same as AutoCAD360

The thin client would be great on all devices and OSes if the DWF would render like it does with the other 360 products.

The thin client would be great on the users Mac or Tablet if the DWF was rendered server side like with all 360 platforms.

There have been issues with previewing DWF Visualizations in the Thin Client because Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox cease to be compatible with the ADR Add-in.  Autodesk already has the A360 Viewer which is capable of viewing tons of file types, one of which is DWF.

Is there a way to leverage the A360 Viewer, or at least a similar function, for viewing files, primarily DWFs, while in the Thin Client?  Doing this would eliminate the need for users to manage downloads of viewables.

Thanks,

Steve

Re introduce the ability to view DWF files in browser, using the Vault Thin Client, without downloading. Like Vault 2019 and previous in IE 11.

The thin client is often used by the shop floor, to avoid errors, by opening already downloaded (older) DWFs files and not checking for new releases in the browser.

Some Customers are avoiding updating their Vault based solution because of the change introduced in Vault 2020.

I am aware of the reasons to remove this in 2020, but why could it be an option use plugin in IE 11 or use download method with Chrome and Edge?

We were sold this functionality, when we entered selecting the Vault Pro solution end 2019.

We are coming from a Vault Basic 2017 system and have decided to upgrade to Vault Pro 2020.

In the introduction fase of the project, we saw the possibility of viewing our drawings and 3D models in a very quick web browser.

This was just what we needed for our Production, Sales dept and Purchase dept., who only need to view files (and now 3D models 🙂 ). These departments are not allowed to download files - only view them. The download solution is not an option for us.

As we now have discovered, this is not possible in the 2020 version !!!!!!!!!

If we have been aware of this, we would have chosen the 2019 version.

This is a huge setback for us

Worse still, you are prevented from viewing an un-released document but can then download it, kind of defeats the object of the thin client.

Response sent from Autodesk support

Hello Paulo,

Thank you for providing those screencasts showing the Thin Client functioning with the Design Review IE add-in.
Although it may be possible for this to work, it is currently not supported in Vault 2021. You can see in the following article: Browser support for Vault Thin Client and DWF Preview

In Vault 2020 [and newer] there is no option to preview dwf files in any browser. They must be downloaded to the local system and viewed with either Design Review or their requisite CAD tool there.

Note: It is not an idea but the maintenance of an important service for costumers.

I can view the files on my IE 11 browser on my workstation, but the costumer is not being possible.
