From what I can tell right now, users have very limited control over the visibility of file records in the Thin Client.  You can either see all versions of a document or all Released versions of a document.  Both options can lead to confusion based on workflow.

What if you want to only show the latest Released version of a file record?  You can't do that - all Released versions are currently displayed.  Worse, what if you use a lifecycle like the built-in Flexible Release Process and perform a Quick Change?  Now you have two versions at a particular revision.  The result can be something like this:

TC_Version_Problem_Example.png

To provide better control over file record visibility in the Thin Client, I'd like to see the options for File visibility expanded to a total of four (from the two we have now).  These four options would be as follows:

  1. Show all file versions
  2. Show all Released file versions (allow multiple versions at the same Revision)
  3. Show all Released file versions (show only the latest version of each Revision)
  4. Show only the latest Released file version

I think one and four are self explanatory.  Two and three might be confusing to the user, but I think they're ultimately necessary.  Option two would function like the current 'show only released' versions, and would lead to a list like the screen capture above.  Option three would be new functionality, and would hide all Released versions of a particular Revision level except for the latest.  This option would hide versions that had been superseded by activities like Quick Change, and so in the example screen capture above, version 6 of the file would not be visible in the Thin Client.

I completely agree with the original poster.

It's not clear how to View or Download the drawing and I'm IT. The average shop floor worker is not generally computer-savvy and will have an even more difficult time. They will not be able to figure out that they need to HOVER over the thumbnail then click on an small icon. Then click the DWF icon after that... (also see this wish http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Vault-IdeaStation/Sub-Release-Thin-Web-Client-Allow-for-resize-of-DWF-...

Here is an example of what I'd like to see (I'm slightly exagerating on the size!). Thank you.

PDF Publishing

Status: Under Review
by Contributor m.numberger on ‎06-20-2012 10:26 PM

Hello,

i think Autodesk should integrate automatic PDF-Publishing into Vault (2D-PDF) like the DWF-Publishing.

The DWF is more powerful and Autodesk want to spread it with force, but there are some reasons for the PDF format:

- PDF is an ISO-Standard, DWF not.

- You can open DWF only on Windows, there is no DesignReview form MAC or Linux.

- The DWF-Viewer works only on prozessores with SSE2, PDF-Viewer are running everywhere.

- Everybody has installed an PDF-Viewer, DesignReview normaly nobody without Autodesk Products.

Best regards

Michael

Vault must check if the file is locked or not before asking to check out.

If the file is locked => don't ask, just open-it read only.

If the file is not locked => ask if you want to check out.

Thanks in advance.

Re-Index Properties NOT from Server

I work at a company, where we don't have direct 'easily' attainable access to the Vault server.

A GREAT addition to the client 'admin' area, is the option to start a re-index of properties.

Would like to have an administrator option to force a date watermark to be printed on drawings when printed from the thin client. Where I work we have to keep track of all controlled documents, but it is states in our policies that once a drawing is printed from vault, it is no longer controlled. Well we have come into problems where manufacturing are printing out drawings months ahead of time and missing crucial revisions and we have no way of knowing when the prints they are using were printed from vault.

Water mark only needs to be along the edge of the printing area and to contain the day, month, and year.

Vault generated email customization

Status: Under Review
by *Expert Elite* on ‎06-21-2012 05:53 AM

The emails generated by Vault during lifecycle changes are basically useless as they are very vague and difficult to read. I want the ability to customize the email template including using properties in the subject and body of the email.

For example I'd love the subject of the email to be the <Change Order #> - <Current Status> and the body of the email to include the change order title and description

We need the ability to store all deployable files related to Inventor in the Vault.  This includes, but is not limited to, the ability to put the Design Data folder into vault, and enhanced tools to manage Templates, Style and material libraries, and iFeatures within the Vault.  Being able to deploy inventor settings XMLs through the project file would be very useful as well.

Basically, we need enterprise level tools to manage inventor configuration.

Thin client - delete file function

Status: Under Review
by mpage1 on ‎10-17-2014 05:40 AM

We're interacting more and more with users on Mac OS. It's helpful for them to upload files using the thin client, but they would also like to have permissions to delete files which they may have uploaded by mistake. Please consider adding this capability to the thin client.

Vault file hyperlink

Status: Under Review
by Contributor gabriel.kim on ‎06-25-2012 09:02 AM

When drawings are completed and loaded into the Vault, I copy hyperlinks of the files and email the links to other engineers to review.   When the link is clicked, it alwasy open a new Vault program even though the Vault program is already open and running.  Is it possible to just open one Vault without opening mulitples?

Thanks
