Hello,
to copy a design needs often a lot of time to rename.
If the copy should bei in the same folder, you have to delete at every file the " (2)" and rename it.
There are the options prefix and suffix but i think its not enough. With them you can olny add something, not replace ore delete.
With options like rename it will be quicker.
Example:
You have files with speeking filenames like this:
0100.025.001
0100.025.002
0100.025.003
0100.025.004
...
and want to make this:
0100.026.001
0100.026.002
0100.026.003
0100.026.004
you have need a lot of time.
Best regards
Michael
I forget something:
with PTC Intralink / Windchill you can make this example easy with:
Replace ".025" with ".026"
I think thats something for Vault, too.
Also add mass-selection for files in Copy Design. Thus you'll be able to select a "copy/reuse" option for several files at time.
You CAN do a replace function in Copy Design, at least as of Vault 2011.
In the file name or loction column, right click and choose replace. It takes some time, but is still a lot quicker than changing each one individually.
I try to set up my file name structure such that there is a common field in all of my file names, which is easy to replace in copy design... for example I prefix everything with the project number.

cbenner is correct. you have to make sure you right click on the cell and not on the column header, which is counter intuitive. But its definitely there.

I found it, too. It works. Thanks to cbrenner.
From my side, this thread can be deleted.
But with this hits, i seems, that others had missed this function, too.
It seems that this function is to hidden. I think the place at the front like prefix and suffix is the better one.
The rename/replace is really exists.
But what about selecting an option for several files at one time or applying option for children?
Hi all
Took me a while to find it too... there is a bit of a trick to the right-clicking
The renaming could definetly use more options
If they need ideas, it could have similar options to the freeware program 'Bulk Rename Utility'
I find that the 'Replace All' rarely works, and that I have to click 'Replace' for every instance... anyone else have this bug?

I have exactly the same situation. 99% of the time I have to select every instance. And like others mentionded before, a well hidden feature. I never knew it. It will save us a lot of work. (esp. copy design of tube&Pipe, frame generator and stress files)
How about getting this function in the new Copy Desing(Vault 2016).
Adding machinery containing parts allready in the new project keeps getting on our nerves.
