WISH LIST

1. File renames and moves within Vault Explorer should also rename/move the
files in the local folders. This would eliminate a huge amount of cleanup.
2. Content Center should not defy unique naming.
3. Should be able to work directly from the search window in Vault
Explorer. Right-click open with Inventor, Right-click rename, etc.
4. Vault Explorer search results need to include the location; Vault path.
If duplicate files are found can only find where they are by right-clicking
and picking "Go to folder".
5. The "Close file and delete local copy" checlkbox in the Inventor Vault
Check In window pops up the warning "All files, including files that are not
checked out or are checked out by other users, will be deleted. Do you want
to continue?". It needs to be smart enough not to delete files currently in
use by other sessions of Inventor. Especially those currently Checked Out
of Vault. Deleting files other user have checked out is BAD!
6. There should be a Vault Manager setting to autocreate DWF's for IDW's
only. Users forget to flip that switch alot. It would help if the checkbox
was not buried on a second window.
7. Reports to list differences in the local folders vs. the Vault folders.

Any comments or addition would be welcome.

15. When using a where used or uses, create a tree (Baan PDM style) with a user selectable level of layers deep to go, not an explorer style listing. I don't always need to see if the 1 up level assembly is used somewhere, just the child part. I also want in that tree to show old versions of assemblies where a part was used, maybe in a different color, showing that it is no longer used in a newer version, with the option to turn that off also.

16. Create a utility to make a batch DWF (better yet, PDF) creation for legacy parts already in the Vault.

17. Make the vault explorer able to read Inventor files for preview, not just DWFs.

18. Improve listing speed. It takes some time to populate some folders and get the status of the files (local copy same as vault, green, red, checked out by me, checked out by someone else....) Vault 1.3 was much faster than Vault 4 at this.

19. Allow part status change (work in progress, pending, released) without checking in / out.

20. Allow comments to be added without checking out & back in.

21. Per part / folder / revision labeling. When I purge I want the latest versions of revs A, B, C... saved only, not in between steps that were checked in / out so my boss could look at my progress through vault.

22. Store an "in process" file into the vault when it is saved locally... that file will be overwritten with the next save to solve the problem above. If my local HD crashes, I want a vaulted but unreleased file to recover from. Local files should only be a cache. If I am working on an assembly I also want to have the option to have a child part that someone else is revising be updated, or just see the latest released version.

23. When doing a copy design of an assembly with parts linked to an excel spreadsheet, have the new assembly and parts reference the new spreadsheet...not the original one!

24. Enable the Vault Explorer to analyze dependencies when
adding/checking in files. It is annoying having to open all files
in IV first in order to get the right dependencies in the vault.

25. When opening files from vault give the user the opportuninty to
resolve depending files manually or to skip them.

26. When opening files from workspace load depending files from vault
if they are not present in the workspace

27. Make the existence of the workspace completely transparent to the
user. The only time a user has to think about it should be during
setup when defining a mapping between a vault and a workspace
folder.

28. Remove folder mappings from project files. It should only be
defined once in VE. That way different users could have different
mappings for the same project. Working folders and libraries
should then be defined in terms of Vault paths and not work space
locations.

I'm working with Civil 3D so a lot of this list doesn't pertain to me. But here are my wishes.

29. Utilize user accounts and groups from Active Directory instead of having to create accounts in Vault Manager.

30. The ability to move Projects from one vault to another.

31. The ability to backup and restore an individual project for archiving purposes.

32. The ability to control the number of file versions from within Vault Manager.
