Why Do I need ADMS on Client Machines

I am CAD Admin for my company who is trying to roll out Inventor/Vault to all users (large deployment). I have a mix of stand-alone seats and network license seats (don't ask why - long story). The stand-alone seats have installed without a problem but the network installs are all failing.

I have a stand-alone version running right now on a desktop but installing a network version in the same manner gives me an error regarding port:80. See attached.

Question - why do I need to install Autodesk Data Management Server on each machine which is the default installation?

Thanks,
Mike

Also, see attached for an image showing my selection of network versus stand-alone installation.

The FlexLM server is up and running.

ADMS is required if you are using Vault, Content Center, or any applications
that depend on Content Center (bolted connection, tube & pipe, frame
generator, etc).

However, ADMS does not need to be installed on every machine.

For Vault I don't think it makes sense to have ADMS installed on each
machine; but for Content Center some people like to have everything on their
machine so that they can still do everything while disconnected from the
network. Vault users can do things like a pack-and-go to get everything they
need before they disconnect from the network.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the reply.

So, if ADMS is installed on a client machine (as it is on my desktop) then all Content Center files are located on my hard drive? If this is the case then this is not what we want as a company. We want the CC to be located in only one location on the server so that everyone pulls from the same spot. How do we do this?

Thanks!

See this document that I wrote; it should help to answer your questions.

I wrote it up for R11 but it is largely applicable.
