Vault User rights

Recently, our organization decided to "test-drive" Vault Lifecycle for our manufacturing drawings.  Our D&D department has become proficient in its use and procedures, and we have purchased two additional Vault seats to begin bringing our engineers and foundry personnel into the evaluation of Lifecyle for reviews, approvals, and release of drawings.  However, we have found that the seats for these new users allow the download of Inventor files from Vault.  It's as simple as a double click on the .ipt or .idw and it saves out to their computer.

These new users will simply need the ability to participate as a user in Drawing and Design Lifecycles.  I have their user right settings as Document managers.  These users need to be able to "change state" in Lifecycles - review and mark-up .dwf files, approve, and release.

How can I disable this for these new users?  Downloading or saving .dwf files is fine - but the ability to download and save Inventor files (whether they can open them or not) is unacceptable.

As always - Thanks you any advice is very much appreciated.

The following page provides permission details for each role:

http://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2015/ENU/Vault/files/GUID-269FDA08-F0C0-47E8-92DA-D832E03F827A.ht...

Hope that helps.

Hi Jeff -

We went through a 3-day training session to configure Vault for our Lifecycles and are familiar with the permissions for each role.  What we need to figure out is why users with the followng perissions can download and/or save Inventor files to their computers.  We need that disabled because these users need to take part in Lifecycle without the ability to download or save copies of Inventor files.  Their role in Lifecycle is as reviewer, approver, and release of drawings.  They only need the ability to change Lifecycle States and mark-up .dwf files.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I don't think what you want to do it possible in the Vault Client.

The role 'Document Manager' indeed solely allows a user to change category and perform other various state related functions, however giving a user this role alone omits the ability to read folders therefore they effectively can't login with just that role, as they can't read any folders.  The role Document Manager needs to be added alongside/on top of a role that provides the folder read function, unfortunately all those roles also come with the 'Vault Get Options' ability which in turn allows them to do what you don't want them to do.  And we haven't been allowed the ability to customise the roles via the client either, so you're kinda stuck with the roles you get.

I can't say for sure whether or not the revamped thin client for 2014 onwards will allow you to do this as I haven't had a chance to play with it.  I think you may need to get in touch with Autodesk Consulting Services or your local reseller to maybe see about writing a custom application to handle and control the security that you need.
