We recommend not having the Vault on a Domain Controller since it could
hinder performance due to the server becoming really busy handling other
services.
However during your promotion to a Domain Controller did you by chance
install the Routing and Remote Access Service? If so can you stop this
service?
Also, open IIS and go to the Default Web Site. Right-click on it and select
browse. A web page should come up. It should be the "Under Construction"
page or possibly the IIS Administration page or another page other then a
web page error.
Let me know what you see.

We recently upgraded our Vault Server to a Domain Controller using
DCpromo.exe. After a successful upgrade, I attempted to access the vault
through a client workstation. I got the red "!" next to the server name of
the login screen. I tried both the computer name (with and without the
domain) and the IP address. When I was unsuccessful, I opened the Data
Management Server at the server to verify everything was working properly
which it was. I could still ping the server and see it through Network
Neighborhoods. Then I ran the Vault diagnostics. It hung up at "Checking
for known firewall." At this point, I figured the best thing to do was to
backup the Vault Data, uninstall the Data Management Server and all its
components, and then reinstall it. Unfortunately upon reinstall, it hung up
on "Checking for known firewall" again and never installed.
The server upgrade to a domain controller may have caused the problems.
However, this was our second attempt at upgrading the server. After the
first server attempt was unsuccessful, we had to remove services that we
didn't need and were potentially causing problems. I stayed away from
services I knew the Vault was dependant on such as Framework and SQL. Any
ideas on what could be causing these problems?
