Vault Pro 2014 seems fail to work with units of measure of Area specified in 3D-models.
Steps to reproduce:
See “Each” in Units property (expected value is «Square Meter»)
Mass and Length units are both OK - Gram, Meter etc. are set automatically.
Of course user can manually switch value to desired value, but nobody wants to keep it constantly in mind
...thus I wonder ....
if this could be fixed by Vault admin or we all should wait Autodesk to create some patch?
PS: The same defect is present in VP2013.
By default we have a unit-of-measure "sqm" for square meters (also sqcm, sqft & sqin for area). If you want to add "m^2", you can do that in Tools / Administration / Vault Settings / Items Tab / Configure Units.

Sorry, but I don't understand your question.
If the unit-of-measure definitions in vault do not match what you are using in the model, then they will become "each". If you define your own and they match, they will be used instead.

Ok. Forget my last message. I think I've got point of your first message in the thread.
Pay attention I haven't created custom units in Vault and neither i did in Inventor (pretty sure it is just impossible).
“You* have a unit-of-measure "sqm" for square meters» ... in the Vault, right?
But have You studied which units Inventor Development Team provides user with before introducing “sqm” unit in Vault?
What would be your recommendation regarding Step1 in 1st message for Inventor user who want some Item be measured in Area units (whatever of four Vault units you've mentioned)?
How Inventor user is expected to create “sqm” Base Unit to match Vault unit?
Have you did it personally or have you seen somebody who did it?
* I guess Vault Developing Team meant here.
In your original post, you wondered "if this could be fixed by Vault admin or we all should wait Autodesk to create some patch?".
I was simply suggesting a possible work-around that could be done by a Vault admin, based on a quick conversion with a colleague.
If the work-around does not work, I recommend starting a support case.
If it does work, please post to this thread so others reading this forum can benefit.

Yes. There should be no problem with having a unit "sqm" and a unit "m^2", which have the same conversion factor to the same base unit (10000 sqcm).
-Dave
I've thinked over workaround you've suggest and could say I'm not happy with it.
I'd rather change/fix symbol for existing unit (make "m^2" instead of "sqm").
I'm pretty sure it is possible - we did recieved SQL query as workaround for alike task (fixing name translation for couple standard units in Russian ADMS for details see case 07707724).
Could you please comment on my desire.
I don't think we have a way to edit units after they are created. This is probably a good one for the Idea Station.
-Dave
I'm not sure what you are asking for. I do not have access to your case history with Product Support as I am not part of that organization.
My understanding is that we do not support running SQL scripts directly against the database. Product Support can (and has) given scripts to customers in certain cases, but those scripts are not intended for mass distribution. I have no comment regarding any such scripts. I stick to what can be done with our released products.
-Dave
I understand that workarounds are less than ideal. In a perfect world they would not be required at all.
It sounds like you have already opened a case with Product Support, which is IMHO, the right thing to do if you have found a defect that is causing problems. We are supposed to be in the business of solving problems for our customers, not causing them.
The only other thing I can suggest would be to add an enhancement request to the idea station to allow units-of-measure to be edited and/or deleted/disabled.
Unfortunately, I don't have any other workarounds.
