Vault on a shared pc

What is the best way to set up vault on a shared PC?

I think just giving the PC a vault logon for all users is the easiest or only way.

Can specific users have there own log on?

Thanks for the advice.

Dear Stephen,

Thanks for your posting. 🙂

You can do these steps:

1. install Vault server on this shared server.

2. Create Vault user by  ADMS Console

1). Log into server console as administrator

2).Select Tools-->Administration

3).Select Security tab.

4).Click Users button

5). Create users for the person who want to use vault

3.then people can log in Vault server through vault client in their own PC if they installed vault client

Hope these helps. If this is not meet your requirement. please reply me. 🙂

Thanks

Rohn

Question:- because the local vault on the pc stores the local files on the c drive, if someone logs in as thereself will the server not get confused?

If the users login to Vault with their user account, then Vault will not be confised as to who has the files checked out.

Example Scenario:

User A Creates part A, check into vault, checks out and leaves for the day.

User B creates Part B checks into Vault, Checks out and continues to work.  User B then creates an assembly, uses Part A and B.  Both files are local to the C drive.  When user B looks at his/her vault browser, it shows User A has Part A checked out.  User B will not be able to check in Part A, but can check in Assembly and Part B.

User A comes back in the morning, logs into Vault, checks out Assembly, and Part B, modifies assembly, adjusts B to fit up with A, check assembly, and Parts A and B in.

Vault manages who has what file checked out, when.

In the above scenario however, if you use C:\_Work as a working folder (See Recommendations) if user A has file A checked out to C:\_Work, the file not be write protected and can be edited out of turn, in Inventor.
