Vault not updating parts

Is anyone else here having this issue?

We are using Inventor 2008 with Vault on a main server.
We have numerous people all working in parts within a main assembly, but when they make any changes to a part and update that part in Vault, the uses that have the assembly open do not see the new changes unless they manually perform a "get latest version" on the assembly.

Shouldn't the "update" icon light up signifying an update to a part in that assembly has taken place? As it is right now, no one has any idea an update has taken place.

Shouldn't Vault and our assemblies be working concurrently?
Am I missing a setting in Vault to do this?
This is causing numerous errors and grief here.
Any suggestions?

I have not found any settings for that. I think if you do "open from Vault" rather than the standard open command, Vault will update any out of date files in your local workspace.

A tool that would let you know that documents that you have open in IV have been updated would be nice. That would require re-designing ADMS to care about what each user has in the local workspace at all times. Currently I think that the local Vault client only checks the status of a component when it is first opened into IV (or when the update button is pressed).

Not sure of your workflow but are you using the "<> From Vault" commands?
These ensure that you are always working with the most recent copy.

Generally speaking, using the non-vault commands should only be necessary
under the following conditions:

1) Opening a file that in your workspace that has not been saved to vault
yet
2) Opening a previous version

By the way, you may also want to consider Productstream which has a
workspace synchronization function.

Hi,

Since you are using Vault 2008, this might not help. But I thought I'd pass this information.

Please refer the following URL.

However, if you are looking for alternate solution, I would suggest you to take a look at the attachment. I used a custom tool button that would invoke "Get latest version" and "Update Assembly".

Hope that helps.

Madhan
