Vault Log in problems

Here is an interesting and frustrating problem. I just completed the roll out of INV11 and Vault5. I have one computer out of 12 that the user can't connect to the vault. When I log on to the computer I can access the vault with no trouble. When the user logs on he gets this Error Message : "Vault Explorer 5.0 could not find the Data Management Services on Shvdesign". Shvdesign is the server that the Vault is installed on. There is obviously something different between our profiles on the computer. I have already checked the user's info and groups we are in and they are identical. We both have administrative rights to the machine. Does anyone have any idea what might be different? Is there some service that might not be starting?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Fire up Internet Explorer and go to this address:

http://Shvdesign/autodeskdm/services/securityservice.asmx

If that doesn't work, the try replacing the name of the server with the IP address as in http://192.168.0.1/autodeskdm/services/securityservice.asmx

If that still doesn't work, then check the time on the server and set the client time on the workstation to be the same or you can do this via the command prompt: NET TIME \\shvdesign

Were you able to figure out this issue? I am running into this also.

Thanks,

Chad,

Verify that you can ping the server you are trying to connect to.
Also open Internet Explorer and type
http://servername/autodeskdm/services/securityservice.asmx in the Address
Link.
You should see a Sign-In page. Replace servername with the name of the
server.

I figured it out, it seems the default web service was stopped.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am just getting back to this problem today. On the computer in question I can log in to the vault when I am logged into the network but the User can't when he is logged in on the same machine. This leads me to believe there must be something different between our profiles either on the machine or the network. This has not occured on any of the other 12 machines I have rolled out.

There is a proxy server running, Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0.

I have all the machines running a startup script that contains the Net Time command so I know the computer has the same time as the server.

I tried the link and it displayed the Security Service page. When I clicked Signin I was presented a page of XML code. Is this what is supposed to happen? What next? I've also attached a copy of the actual error message.

Mike,

When you get the Sign In web page that was all I was looking for. You don't
need to try and sign-in since it won't work from there anyway.

Make sure that the Proxy server is set to bypass the local IP addresses, the
vault servers IP address and the Vault Servers name. This way the client
has direct access to the server without going through the proxy.

If this doesn't work, please try and disable the Proxy Server and see if he
is able to log in.

Thanks for the reply. I've already done all you suggested. The proxy server stuff was my first course of action. I even uninstalled the vault client and reinstalled it with the same result. That is why I think it is something in his profile.

Can you use the FileMon and RegMon utilities from www.sysinternals.com to
see if he is being denied access to a file or registry key?

Hello,
When you had installed the Server, it asks for the number of users to allow to acces the Server. If you remember, what is the number that you had entered?
If it is 12, it would not allow more than 12 number of users to access the server. I have attached the dialog in the Server installation process. Please, Let us know if you are getting stucked here.

That box doesn't control the number of allowed logins. That's an information
gathering tool to help us understand your planned use of the server.

The filemon and regmon utilities gave too much info to even begin to wade thru. I tried and saw nothing that stood out that would point me in the right direction. I was convinced that the issue lies with his profile on the network and to test my theory I had another user with similar rights on the network sign in on this machine. He was able to log into the vault with no problem. I then asked the regular user log in and he was now able to connect to the vault.

Problem solved?

I am not sure what actually happened but for the moment he can use the vault. I really would like to know what caused this and I am hoping it never happens again.

Thanks for all the suggestions,

Mike
