I’m not a Vault expert, but I do support AutoCAD Plant 3D.

  • Please provide more description of the steps that occur before getting this error message?
  • Also, Plant 3D needs to be configured with SQL Server first, in order to work with Vault. Are you all set up with SQL Server and that SQL database connection is working OK?
  • Then what are the steps you’re taking to place the Plant 3D project into Vault? Is this on initial Plant 3D project setup or are you moving an existing project to Vault?
  • Do you have other Plant 3D projects working successfully in Vault and it’s this particular one that’s giving you grief? Or is this the first attempt?

You may be using these references already, but here are a couple useful documents for this subject:

PD5871: Cracking Vault with AutoCAD Plant 3D and AutoCAD P&ID

Sign in required to download the Class Handout there.  I've also attached below for your convenience

Brand new computers.  I have the server set up and vault server installed

I installed Vault workgroup client on the work computer.

that is where I am.

I will read over the documents.

edit.

I know nothing of sql servers.  This is the first time I have ever had to deal with it.

John

Can you log and connect into the Vault using the Vault Workgroups client? Or do you get the same error on that too?

Who installed the ADMS side of Vault for you?

The error you're seeing is unfortunately quite generic, it means your PC can't 'see' the Vault server and/or the components it needs to find.

If it was me, I'd start by going through the basic troubleshooting stuff.  Can I ping the server by name, or IP, can I connect to the Vault using the IP, if I can ping the server then I'd go onto the server and see if the IIS default website is running/the world wide web publishing service, re-run the pre-check utility, hopefully something from all that will give an indication.

However if you're not familiar with the Vault server side of things, it'll be difficult to know what you're looking for so you may need to bring in your reseller for help.

Unfortunatly I know nothing of vault or the server.

It wasn't in the budget to spend 3 times the cost of vault for the reseller to go through the install - which they also said was a waste for me.  being a 2 seat install. ( jokes on me? heh )

You gave me a few things to sort through, and the thread link has been passed to an autodesk support specialist who will be comming on soon.  I am almost positive it is something small and easy to fix, but again being agnostic about servers and vault, I missed it.

We have a new hire who comes in mid January.  So I have till then to get it up and running.  So luckly this is not critical.

Also, the current projects are with P3D 2014 which isn't compatable with Vault WG Pro 2015, so I still have a bunch of things to finish.

In your troubleshooting, you are using the wrong address for Vault 2015. The Vault 2015 address for the security service would be:

http://localhost/AutodeskDM/Services/v19/SecurityService.svc

Perhaps trying that will give you more diagnostic information.

Finally got everything up and running.

Hired local IT to troubleshoot the SQL Server.  Took a few hours but it is up and running.

I can understand now ( not having an IT background ) how they can charge an extream amount of money to set this up

It seemed overly complicated.

But it is running.

Now just getting it up and running just added so many more questions. But that is a job for google, I am sure I will be back here with more questions soon enough though.
