Vault Explorer shows no local copy for many files

This past week Vault Explorer began showing that I do not have a local copy of many of the files in Vault (file status box is blank in VE). I created and checked in many of these files and also see them in windows explorer. I can open them from the Inventor add-in with no problem. Not causing errors, just kind of strange. Any ideas what might cause this?

I would try and open a file locally from IV (that means you have a local copy) that VE says is not there, and check its Vault status, to make sure Vault and IV are seeing it properly, ie you don't have to "add files."

If it shows up in IV with the circle I would see what VE shows to see if VE updates properly. Next I would check it out from IV and see if VE shows that too, and then Undo checkout. I would also try checking out from VE and see if they link up that way, and then undo checkout.

Screen caps would be helpful for this as well, to show the miss-matches.

Unfortunately while working earlier I used get latest version which corrects the problem, so I must wait for it to happen again to post. Maybe tomorrow. Thanks for the reply.

I actually don't think this corrected your problem but possibly masked
the issue.

The way this checking works is to compare the working folder to the
vault. The working folder is set with Vault Explorer and tells the
vault where to place files locally, but in some cases you can have files
in Inventor that are in a different location. The net result is that
in inventor you can work on files normally but with the vault the files
"think" they don't exist locally.

So... what I would recommend is that you check the location of the
inventor files vs. the location you have set to the working folder. If
they don't match get them to be the same by doing this:

1) check in any work you have out currently
2) check the setting of your working folder (i recommend only setting
this at the "$" level to a single folder)
- You can find the current working folder location by looking right
above the file list in Vault Explorer...)
3) "get" a fresh copy.
4) open it again in Inventor and work on it...

I hope this helps.

I have attached a file chronicling my settings and the problem with Vault showing no local copy. It seems now that it may be happening when other users check files out.

Please note that I accidentally left a screen shot out of the attachment on my previous post. On page 3 it was supposed to be under the statement... " I saved again in IV and checked file back in and refreshed Vault. Vault shows no local copy again?"

The screen show simply showed the file Assembly1.iam with no local copy according to VE.

Are you still experiencing this? If not, how did you resolve it. I have one user that is seeing the same "no local copy" issue when it is in fact on the workspace.

Thanks,

Kirk,

What did you do to fix this?

Looking for a solution myself. I have this issue only on one workstation.

Here's an example of what I'm seeing. Notice that 871104.idw and 871314.idw are in the workspace (C:\Engineering\Drawings\FMIPN\854 to 900). This is the same folder as the "Working folder" from Vault.

Vault Explorer does not show a local copy for these files.

Kirk,

In Vault Explorer, perform a Get Entire Folder on the one you show in the
image.

Let me know what happens.

If those parts are checked out and are a different version than what is in Vault, I will loose my changes.... correct?

Yes!!

Backup / copy your folder to another location.

Irvin,
I copied the folder to a temporary location so that I would not loose any changes that I have made on those parts. I did a "Get Entire Folder" from VE, and it got it all back in sync.

I just don't understand how only this folder got into this shape.

I also encounter this issue recently on Vault4.
I suspect there are something wrong with the vault manager backup because this fenomena happen only after i automatically backup my vault database weeks ago.

Maybe the link lost during dettach & attach of vault database

The solution that i use is using the get entire folder but it have risk of overwriting local coppies which the more update.

Do somebody know how to solve this isseu?

I am also seeing the same thing with Vault 4. This has only recently happened. It started just after we installed Inv 10. We had no problems of this kind while we were running Inv 9 and Vault 4. Could this be a glitch with Vault 4 not reading the files properly that have been migrated?

There was a problem in Vault 4 that caused this to occur. If it's the same
problem, it has been fixed in Vault 5.

Do you mean that we can solve this problem only if we upgrade our vault to version 5?
