Vault Category system Properties

We are having a major issue with vault item categories in vault 2013.

any category that was defaulted in vault when it was installed works just fine.

however, anytime we apply a category created after initial install to any item, the system properties for "Category Name", "Category Name (Historical)", "Category Glyph" all disappear.

this means that we have no way of searching for items by the category, we have no way to sort items by category, etc.

I do know that the category ID's for all the newly created categories are all numbers that are too large to be integers, so I don't know if this may be causing the issue?

if so, is it possible to force those ID's to change?

this issue is crippling our company's ability to even find the parts we need to find in the system, so any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend contacting Product Support.  I think others have seen similar problems - but I'm not sure what the resolution is.
