Unable to open documents in Vault 2014 - Vault crashes

We have a user that is using a Surface Pro and is having issues opening documents of any kind in Vault 2014 professional.  He was able to open files before applying SP 2, now every time he trys to open any kind of file Vault crashes.  "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program."

I have tried going back to SP 1 but still get the same results... any thoughts?

His Surface Pro is running Intel Core 15-4300U CPU @ 1.9GHz, 8GB of RAM and 200+GB available hard drive.

Anyone have any ideas?

Is your user able to GET (download) the file to his local and open it with the appropriate application?

Unfortunately no, Vault crashes before it even asks if he wants to check it out.

So if he right-clicks a file and chooses Get / Checkout, it crashes?

Correct, it doesn't matter if he right clicks and selects Get/Checkout, Open, View in Window or double clicks the file a Window opens stating that Vault experienced an error and closes the application. There is no error code or anything indicating what the error was.  It is looking like the root cause is that he is using Windows 8.1 which is not a supported system for Vault 2014.  He is the only one in the group piloting Windows 8.1 and the only one having the problem.  We have a work around in place to keep him going until we upgrade Vault.
