Please find the solution TS86063 on the Autodesk on-line knowledge base.
Here's a quick summary:
1. Verify the time on the client and server is synchronized within 5
minutes.
2. Download and install all Windows critical updates except for Windows XP
Service Pack 2. Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service
Pack 1 (KB867801) needs to be installed.
3. Verify the operating system installed on the client and server is
registered and activated.
4. Domain environment? Verify the DNS is working properly. Connect to the
vault server using the server name and then IP address. If the IP address
works, but the server name does not the DNS is not working properly. Verify
the server and client(s) are located within the same domain or the two
domains know about each other.
5. Workgroup environment? Verify the user account and password on each
client is replicated on the server.
6. Check the "host" or "lmhost" file in the following location on each
client and verify the server's name and IP address are present. If not, add
it manually and save the file. You may wish to contact your IT department or
network administrator.
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc
7. If the server and client are installed on the same computer, go to your
Add/Remove Components and perform a Change/Repair on the Vault server.
8. Verify at least one vault database is present or created. If all of the
Vaults are deleted, then a "server not found" error will display when
logging in to the Vault.
9. If you have any firewall software installed make sure port 80 is open or
Autodesk Vault will not function properly.
10. You may also try stopping and re-starting the MSSQL server via the
system tray, then go to the Windows start menu, click on Run..., then type
IISRESET in the window and press enter on your keyboard.
You'll want to exhaust the possibilities here and make sure you go through
this solution completely. Chances are you can resolve this by doing step 10
(stop MSSQL server, IISRESET, start MSSQL server) and/or doing a
change/repair on the Vault Server/Client. If you have Windows XP Sp2, make
sure port 80 is open.
Also, try logging in to your system in the Vault login using machinename or
localhost.

Bob Henry
