Two users with the same vault rights... search doesn't work for one.

I have two vault users, one was setup back before we migrated from Vault 5 to ADMS 2008, the other I setup after the migration.

Both have the same server rights and rolls.

The original user can find all the data he is looking for in the vault using search, the new user gets a message that the item(s) he is looking for is not there.

This is more than a bit annoying, I even tried erasing both user's local cache and repopulating it again (including the items that search couldn't find), but it didn't work.

Anyone have an idea what I can do to fix this?

Is it possible that the two users might have
different permissions on the containing folder? e.g. Right click on folder ->
properties.. -> security tab .

 

Other than this, I can't imagine why they would get
different results. Is the second user seeing an error of any kind?

They are both in the same user group in the 2003 AD and both have the same rights to the containing folder. And the second user is not get any error messages at all.

I had the second user log onto the first user's Workstation using his credentials... and he can use search successfully from it. So it does have something to do with the new Installation of ADMS 2008 without the prior installation of Vault 5.

That is really puzzling.. from what you are saying
it sounds like there is an issue with the machine user 2 is running on [since
user 2 can search fine on user 1's machine]. Have you tried logging in as user 1
on the user 2 machine to do a search? That might be an interesting data
point.

 

All I can think of is that maybe the user 2 machine
has some bad settings saved in configuration. The configuration is saved in a
directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application
Data\Autodesk

There should be a subdirectory for 'vault 2008' or
something to that effect. Try deleting or otherwise removing this subdirectory.
That will cause the vault client to revert to default behavior. If some bad
settings are the culprit, this should fix the problem.
