Slow Vault? -Check IPV4/IPV6 settings!

Just had a case where Inventor became wery unresponsive and was showing a hourglass for almost every operation, as soon as users logged in to Vault. Vault Explorer was also close to unusable.

What I found was that the workstations were resolving the IPV6-address of the server, instead of the IPV4 address.

By disabling IPV6 on the Windows 2008 server and rebooting the workstations (or ipconfig /flushdns), the performance was back to normal.

IPV4 address example:

C:\Windows\System32>ping vs01

Pinging vs01.nn.net [192.168.26.131] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.26.131: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=128

IPV6 address example (Which causes performance problems):

C:\Windows\System32>ping vs01

Pinging vs01.nn.net [fe80::88eb:1c96:2694:ce69%10] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from fe80::88eb:1c96:2694:ce69%10: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=128

Ask your network administrator before making any changes. IPV6 should not be disabled on Windows Small Business Servers (BTDT...)!
