Single Project File & Multiple Vaults

Single Project File & Multiple Vaults....is this Possible Yes or No?

Our intent is to deploy a "WIP Vault" and a "Released Vault" by which an Admin will manually move models from one to the other. This will allow us to make the WIP vault read/write access and the Released vault read-only for everyone except the admin.

I'm suspecting we will need to make a project file for each vault 😞

Would it work to just have the admin check the
files out that are released? This would prevent others from editing the files,
and it would elimnate the headache of managing multiple vaults/copies
etc.

hmm...good point...that won't go over so well with my Boss though 😞 ...but I see your point...that's the kind of thinking I'm looking for...

I also thought about moving the data out of the vault upon release by utilizing a "Released" folder in the Library which would reside outside of the vault making it read-only...and then when we need to, make a copy and create the next rev.

We're also leaning towards keeping our current AutoCAD .dwg naming convention for rev control which is simply adding a suffix to the file name such as "r1" or "rA" ...this could work in Inventor world as well only we would have to manually check for rev updates within a new copy of an assembly to make sure we are using the latest and greatest...however that's what our ERP will do...only in a printed BOM form...

I was hoping to use "versions" to semi-control rev's...meaning Vault would indicate if there is a newer version of a Rev but not a "new" Revision so that's where the "Release" personnel would have to check "where used" (in our case where used is only in a single project) then manually replace the "newer" rev part or assembly then the upper assembly containing the rev components would have a new version associated but not a new Rev unless of course the F.F.F. was altered then that would actually take place in the designers hands...and so on and so forth...

...back to my original question of multiple vaults...I really want to know how folks are managing projects with models from multiple vaults ...meaning we want to have a WIP vault and a Released Vault by which the process of releasing the models will manually move them from WIP to the Released vault...and if that is true...then we should be able to create a 3rd vault for our Library components or better yet just add the libraries to the Released Vault!

All of this ways heavily on the unknowns I have to verify or will test out here soon...
1) Logging in & out of Vaults or how to log in to multiple vaults or at least access files from multiple vaults on the same project!
2) How to utilize the Single Vault Project method with multiple vaults mapped?

...and no Productstream is out of the question...we are deploying another app in its place that better suits our new ERP, hence the reason I'm searching alternative solutions...we (mech side of things) are only 20% of the data being managed here and what we want is hard to sell 😞
