searching documents with missing user property

Hello,

how can i search for all documents which have a user property missing.

The problem why i need this is that I created new properties, new documents get these properties but old documents dont't get unless i checked them out. But i can't check them out, there are many thousands of documents with lifecycle.

Or how can i manage that?

I would choose a primary property to address and perform a search for that property "Is Empty".  Save that search and use it as the selection set for the files requiring property inputs.  It sounds like it is likely going to allow you to add the other missing properties that have recently been added.  Repeat this for each new property as necessary.

It sounds like you could do an advanced search with the search condition 'is empty' for that property.

You make an excellent point!  This is a pick list, and as such you can't leave the value blank.  I was able to duplicate your situation.  My solution was to select the property, then the "Is Not" condition, and then a single asterisk for the value.  I found this gave the desired results.

That works, i get all documents which have no entries in the property.

But is there any solution if i have documents where the property is missing?
