Reserving shared licenses

We have 9 licenses of Vault Manufacturing. 7 of those belong to
engineering, and 2 to manufacturing. I need a way to reserve the VM
licenses under a certain serial number to a certain group of users. IT says
they're not seeing any way to do this in the Flexnet interface. Can anyone
give me any insight on how this problem might be solved?

Thanks,
Walt

Hi Walt, unfortunately, there is no way to reserve Vault Manufacturing users
to a specific user/machine.because the FlexNET license manager sees all
licenses as being checked-out to "AutodeskVault@Your-Server-Hostname".

That's....pretty limiting for a flagship collaborative workgrouping
application.

Can flexnet for the two licenses be run on two different servers, yet all
seats still access the same vault?

Since the licensing is done at the server rather than the clients, there is
no way to have certain clients get their licenses from a different license
manager.

Having "reserved" licenses is something that we wanted to do, but couldn't
due to technology limitations. We hope that this is something we will be
able to support eventually.

Of course, right after my last post, I realized there is one way to have
seperate license servers for two sets of users, but it is probably overkill
for what you are trying to do ... If you setup two different ADMS's sharing
one database (aka Filestore replication), you could point each ADMS at a
different license manager.

Not a great solution I know - it would be much easier if we could reserve
licenses to specific users.

Thanks Dave. As you say, overkill, but it may be what we have to do. This
is a political, and jot just a technical issue here, with different
departments involved. I need to solve this problem before the department
VPs start getting CCd on concerned emails...

I hope this one is looming large on your 'need to fix' list. I'm not sure
if a lot of companies are experiencing similar issues, but it's a big one
here.

Cheers,
Walt
