Rename Files in Vault

I am having problems with renameing files in vault. I created a test part, and renamed it without a problem. I then created a assembly, and rename it, HOWEVER as soon as test part got used in the test assembly I could no longer rename it. Same thing happened when I created a test drawing and put in the test assembly. The wizard tries to do the rename but gets a error that say I need to contact support. Has anyone seen this before?

My guess is that the Inventor install is messed up somehow. Using that very
simple model you created, can you try Copy Design to see if it fails? If so,
it is has something to do with accessing the Inventor dll's the Vault uses
to repair file references. I think Design Assistant uses the same API the
Vault does, so you might want to try that also to see if it works.

Ok, I think you said you have Inventor 10 installed? Any service packs? I'm
pretty sure now that this is an issue with the Inventor installation. Do you
have another machine with a Vault client installed that you can try? Short
of reinstalling Inventor, maybe you could try a repair to see if that helps.

Vault and IV 10 service 3a

Both are up to date. I'm the only cad guy so we do not have another system to try it on. What is the suggestion (steps)for a repair to IV.

Below are the steps for doing a repair of the Inventor install. However, I
am not an Inventor expert so you may want to confirm (in the Inventor
newsgroups, support channel, etc) that this is something that will work for
you. It should work, I'm just not sure if having service pack 3 has any
impact.

Here are the steps:

1. Launch Control Panel
2. Launch Add/Remove Programs
3. Select Autodesk Inventor 10
4. Click on the Change button

This should start the Inventor install with Modify, Repair, and Remove as
options. I was suggesting you do the Repair option.

IT WORKED !!!!!!!!

Did an update to inventor from the windows update panel. After a re-start tried the re-name option and all is well again.

I guess that is a note to all then on where / how vault uses inventor to control the re-name and the copy design fuctions.

I was the previous user that had PS installed. When I left I backed up the
PS Vault, performed a Get Entire Folder to the workspace, deleted the vault,
and uninstalled PS. Installed Vault 4, and reloaded everything from the
workspace into the Vault.

The rename function worked fine when I left the company. Since then there
have been some other users involved.

You may need to get someone from Autodesk back into this thread (or start a
new one to get the attention).

ProductStream Database (4.5) is different than the plain vault database
(4.0) Knowing PS was in use on the machine before may be very important to
troubleshooting issues now.
They will need to know what version of server software you are using & what
version of Vault Explorer (Client) you are using.

While productStream works on top of Vault (sort of) I believe that it
migrates the Vault database into a productstream type database.

You need to check with Adesk to learn the possible effects of that prior use
of PS and if you can go backwards to a plain vault environment w/o reloading
all your data. I think it takes more than just uninstalling the
ProductStream software, but I haven't used PS in a while so I am not sure &
don't want to mislead you.

Glad you got it working - I have been watching this thread and racking my
brain trying to figure it out.
