I see some other discussions on this topic and I do not have any of the solutions to correct my getting the same error. All files open just fine, no mirrored parts, and no IDWs created (yet). Does anyone know what this error means? It does not give the error until the progress bar is very nearly finished which gives no indication of the timing of error while it is looking for files.

I'm just guessing here so don't put it in the bank...

Does it happen on every attempt to rename this specific file?

If it seems to fail once on the file, then succeeds on another attempt a later, I'd suspect an interruption of service in the network traffic or msde service.

OR... It happens on that file every time, How big is the file?

Any chance it was caused by a time out settng somewhere on the server side??

Finally, any chance that the full path/file name in the file store is exceeding a preset character limit? I remember reading somewhere there was a character limit of 156? or 251?

I think during a rename Vault has to access the file in the filestore (kind of an internal copy & rename file) that creates a new version in the filestore. If it timed out or had an interrupt of some kind mid-process it could trigger an error. ie Vault not able to access the filestore in mid-rename. Or too many characters might cause an inabilty to retrieve it also.

Hopefully, Adesk will jump into this thread with an answer.

It happens to me once in a while but later attemps succeed so I've just accepted it as a service or network "BURP".

One other thought. You didn't say if you are running on full sequl or msde. Any chance you are nearing an MSDE limit of database size or # of concurrent users on the service?

In my brief experience with Vault, I would say you have reached the 2gb limit of the database. Use Vault manager and do a purge.

This problem has merged into ERROR 111 : An error occured while attempting to access the file store.

Anyone know about this one? I have tried the permissions trick and the purge with no luck. Why all of the sudden this message? Everything going fine for months...

Some of these questions are extremely out of my range of knowledge. I only know how to draw parts and do stress reports.

To answer some of the questions:
Does it happen on every attempt to rename this specific file?
Yes, this files and other within the same folder or assembly

OR... It happens on that file every time, How big is the file?
Small...146 kb

Any chance it was caused by a time out settng somewhere on the server side??
Not really. Does not happen when trying to rename other files.

Finally, any chance that the full path/file name in the file store is exceeding a preset character limit? I remember reading somewhere there was a character limit of 156? or 251?
No.

One other thought. You didn't say if you are running on full sequl or msde. Any chance you are nearing an MSDE limit of database size or # of concurrent users on the service?
I have no idea on full sql or MSDE. How do I check?
We only have two users on the vault.

Check the size of the file C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$AUTODESKVAULT\DATA\Vault.mdf

This is on the server.

Error 111 indicates that there in, indeed, a permissions problem relative to
the filestore. I'm assuming that you have Vault 4. Do you have Service Pack2
installed on all clients and the server? It's not required, but I would
install it unless there's some reason that would keep you from doing so.

Most likely, you're getting an Error 111 because the Vault filestore folder
lacks permissions for AutodeskVault user. This is a local user created when
you install the Autodesk Data Management Server 4 (again, assuming Vault 4
here). If the filestore is in the default location then you shouldn't need
to worry about these permissions. If the filestore has been moved to a
non-default location you'll likely need to apply the permissions for
AutodeskVault with full control to the root folder in the filestore and
apply to all files/folders contained within (using Advanced button).

Could you perhaps let us know that if the assumptions I'm making are on
target?

Vault 4?
Default file store and database locations?

Are you logged into Vault as administrator?

Lastly, if you can get us a copy of your most recent vlog file (after you've
reproduced the problem), then we can probably give you a better idea of
what's happening. The vlog would be found here for Vault 4:

c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\Vault
server\filestore

Thanks,
Bob
