"Unspecified error (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004005(E_FAIL))"

This error occurs when I try to do a copy design or move a folder or Inventor file inside the Vault client. I have rebooted the server that the ADMS sits on and rebooted my machine and one other that has access to it. I'm running Windows 7 and the other machine is running Windows XP pro (SP3). Both have the same problem. We are still able to check stuff in through the Inventor Vault interface, but unable to move or copy Inventor files. Please help.

I am getting a "DocumentGetSyncService(service).CheckinFileVersio() - File does not exist" error.  The path shown is the one I manually go to and find the file sitting right there.  Why is it telling me it doesn't exist?

We are having similar issues on several machines (not all of them though).....Here's my SR which has been out there since June (SR 1-9527050901).

SP2 Fix this?

For what is worth....One user was storing his "My Documents"  folder from his local machine to a USB drive. Somewhere along the line the drive letter changed from "F" to a "G". He just RMB'd on My Computer and chose Managed. He changed the drive letter back to "F" and now the copy design and rename work. It appears there might be a connection to your "My Documents" folder.

I am ALSO HAVING SAME ISSUES, WONDERING IF IT RELATED TO i-PART FACTORIES parts THAT WERE MOVED TO VAULT 2011 FROM 2010, BUT NOT MIGRATED. ONE POSSIBLIITY. WOULD RATHER GET AN ANSWER FIRST AS THAT WILL TAKE A LONG TIME.

The hotfix didn't work.  This function was working earlier this year.  Can I roll back the service packs?

Patrick...don't think it's a service pack issue. We had some machines working and it quit working without added any SP's or updates.

I have noticed mixed results when copying design some work some not, always the same error when it fails. neither had a substitute part at all

Additionally the new copy design screen is a pain to navigate, simple rename function takes alot of time to work. And the check out screen allways goes to a default screen setting that does not show the full item name, is not customizable, and is also a pain. Like 2010 Vault much much  more. . Very annoying, Autodesk. Using Adms 2011 Vault inventor, and Autocad. Not happy with the new products.

Also having this issu etoday trying to move files in Vault to a new location. Previously in2010 ( now in2011) it worked NP as long as none of the parents or assemblies using these files were not checked out. But now, it plain doesn't work at all. Not acceptable, this reorganizing is one of my key job functions. Help......

Same error trying to rename folders in vault.

This is getting very frustrating.  Can't even do a simple change.

I completely agree, I need to copy design, and move files to a new location. I'm totally stuck here. Please let me know i fyou figure anything out. I have been able to get latest version and use Design assistant to copy most designs. That seems to be a time consuming ,but effective work around.

I've been able to work around the error to some degree.  The problem it seems is that the files are not being copied to the new location in the temp folder.

Vault gets all the required files into a folder in your C:\Temp directory (or whatever your temp environment variable is set to).  It creates a new folder of an undecipherable name in there and places the affected files into it in the same folder structure as your vault.

It does not copy or move them to the new path.  So after the error, I have manually moved the files to the correct path inside the temp folder, and after clicking the error message, everything gets checked back in into the new location.  It's a royal PITA but worked for me.  I had to move several 1000 files this way when we restructured our vault.

Good luck.

smjanows,

Also very interesting, I need to think about that one. Seems like you have dug pretty deep into the move limitation, situation.

Which is the only thing I haven't tried to work around.

My plan would likely be as follows though.

Short of getting latest version, moving the file in working folder manually. Deleteing the original and all dwf associations from vault (requires at least editor right), and then using the copy of the original to check back in to the new vault folder from the new working folder. Almost sure you'd then have to instruct anything that used the previously (now deleted) file, where to find the new moved file. Which would likely take an enormous amount of time.

Same issue here with one file out of 100+ that i moved while in the vault.  We also have issues with copy design and renaming or moving folders in the vault.  No fixes yet, very glitchy.

I tried the work around noted but didn't get it to work on my machine.  Any others have luck?

Using 2011 pro sp1, vault 2011
