Product Stream replication not getting successful

Dear fellows,

We are trying to test replication feature in Autodesk Product Stream 2009 over WAN. Installation and setup procedure is followed as much as possible as given in documentation . but still not sucessful. I will really thankful if someone can help me out.

Configuration.
Product stream server;
Wndows Server 2003, Service Pack 2, (Live updated)
SQL Server 2005 enterprise SP2,
.Net framework 3
Autodesk ProductStream 2009 server.

Client;
Windows XP Professional (Live updated)
PS2009 with using Remote SQL from Server

We established VPN with main server (domain controller), connect to it, can browse files in Product Stream server through remote site, but can not copy that files to local filestore, with a message that remote site is inaccessible (with status available on site nodes in PS server Console).

Log reports error that "can not resolve remote name" that is PS server computer name.

Let me confess that i m not much familiar with Networking and SQL, just followed the steps given in product stream installation guide. thats y seeking help......

It sounds to me like your machine has connectivity
to the SQL server - otherwise you wouldn't be able to log into vault. However
for some reason one of your sites [ADMS installations] cannot connect to the
other one. You would get the same issue if you tried to Ping the server or other
wise connect to it.

Do you have an IT dept who could help diagnose the
networking problem? It sounds like there could be many potential factors here -
the VPN configuration being one of them.

If firewall of the machine that host the database is turned
on, try turn it off first and check whether this resolve the problem. If so, this
link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms175043(SQL.90).aspx
have information on how to configure a firewall for SQL Server Access.

Hope this help.

Hello,

I know that there were some considerations documented on implementing Replicator, now Producstream 2009.

One of them was time responses for ping's.

You'll have to find these considerations in order to get those values for comparison.

One other thing you could try to do is incrementing timeout values in IIS and in your web.config files.

I don't have the time right now to search for all the links i mentioned, but i can later if you wish.

Hello,

thnx to all who have replied to me. paul, chee and david.

We have succeeded........in replicating files

as i had mentioned i m not expert in networking, databases etc. Let me explain in layman words, what was the problem and how we did find its solution.

what we were doing in past, we established a VPN connection with PSserver in such a way that we have to write "ping PSserver.www.mainserver.com".
error message in vault log was "replication failed remote name 'PSserver' not resolved.

then to resolve this issue we establish VPN connection in such a way that we are now able to ping directly by writing its name i.e "ping PSserver"
Now Product stream is replicating file store without any problems.

I will really appreciate if some IT expert can translate this in more technical language, just to help us and others who are thinking to work on PS replication.

thnx

Glad to hear things are working.

I am not a 'networking expert' either by any means.
However it looks like this was an issue with DNS resolution of the machine name.
i.e. the previous DNS resolution was not looking on the sub-domain for machine
name resolution.

This is an interesting gotcha. Hopefully this will
inform other newsgroup users who might run into similar problems.
