Please help.Vault 3 on SQL 2000 SE to Vault 2012 on SQL Express.

Hi
I have Inventor 8 and Vault 3.
ADMS is installed on SQL 2000 Standard Edition
I want to upgrade to Inventor 2012 and Vault 2012.
My database has about 3 GB so SQL Express 2008 version should suffice.
Question how to make this transition?

Dear adamkarski,

this requires many steps to migrate.and a a lot of things to attend because of the migration path of Vault (usually you can migrate 2 versions directly) and the SQL Server versions which are supported in specific versions of the Vault.

First problem I see here is that you finally want to go from SQL 2000 Standard Edition to SQL Express 2008. This would be a downgrade and not supported by Microsoft.

In other words you finally would need to go to SQL 2008 Standard Edition

1. Create a backup in Vault 3

2. Uninstall Vault 3

3. Install Vault 5

4. Restore the backup of Vault 3 and let it migrate

5. Create a backup in Vault 5

6. Uninstall Vault 5

7. Install Vault 2009

8. Restore the backup of Vault 5 and let it migrate

9. Update from SQL2000 Standard Edition to SQL 2005 Standard Editon

10. Create a backup in Vault 2009

11. Uninstall Vault 2009

12. Install Vault 2011

13. Restore the backup of Vault 2009 and let it migrate

14. Update from SQL2005 Standard Edition to SQL2008 Standard Edition

15. Create a backup in Vault 2011

16. Uninstall Vault 2011

17. Install Vault 2012

18. Restore the Backup of Vault 2011

I hope this helps.
