Hi,
I'm new for Vault.
I have thousands folders, under each folder, there drawings (dwgs) and PDF files. How I can setup a user so she/he will view PDF only, not drawings files, in web client and vault explorer.
How easy to do it? Do I have to do it programmically?
Thank you so much
Thanks
Wes

Vault, out of the box, cannot limit users from viewing specific filetypes.
For API / Customization related questions, please post to the Vault Customization discussion.
Wes,
Which version and model year of vault are you using? I would normally handle this with Vault Workgroup or Vault Professional, where we can set PDFs to a particular category. Having a particular category allows us to control who can see these files. Similarly, I would set drawings to another category that is hidden from those that should not see them.
Thanks,
Mark
Hi Jeff:
Thank you for your time.
Mine is Vault Pro 2014. I'm working on implementation for the first project in Vault. I will create a AutoCAD .net function to automate pdf generation. What I did,
1. monitor AutoCAD CommandEnded event of Vault checkin command
2. in event handle function, create pdf from current drawing
3. if same name pdf already in vault, checkout it first. then checkin the new created pdf file
4. I think I can add a category to the pdf at this stage. I can configure that category so a certain user group can view it and make sure drawing file does not belong to that category.
is my understanding correct?
Thank you so much
Wes
Yes, you have it right. By assigning PDFs a special category, you can associate a lifecycle to them that limits the groups that can view those files.

Mark
