I am trying to get the iFilter to work correctly for my PDF files in Vault. So far, I have not been able to do it. When I put a PDF into Vault, here is what Isee. The PDF has been edited in Adobe Pro to include information in the TITLE field, but as you can see there is nothing showing in Vault Explorer 2014.
Here is what I have done so far:
1. Installed the PDF iFilter v11 for x64 systems to my server. Edit the PATH system variable to the installation \bin folder like the readme said.
2. In the C:\Program Files\Autodesk\ADMS 2014\Server\Web\Services\web.config file, I the defaultCommand and LongCommand. They were 360 and 1800, respectively.
<timeouts connection="120" defaultCommand="720" longCommand="3600" />
3. Rebooted the server and then started ADMS and did a Re-Index of properties. When it finished, I got the attached report.
Questions:
1. How do I get the iFiler for the PDF's to work in Vault.
2. Whats the deal with the files in the Re-Index report? This is not the "only" .dwg files in my vault.. I have 1,000's more, but they are not in the report. What are the implicatios of the iFilter not loading? From VE, when I open one of the .dwg files in the report, they open just fine.
Thanks,
Kirk
Below is a screen shot of the PDF document properties. In the foreground you can see the info in the "title" of the document. I am wanting this to appear in the "Title" column in Basic Vault Explorer 2014.
Thanks

Try using the PDF X-Change Viewer instead and its iFilter. I tried to get the regular iFilter for PDF files to work following their directions and have been unsuccessfull. With the PDF X-Change Viewer is was able to get a few more properties including title.

This isn't really an integration issue with Vault, but with Windows itself. If you are able to see properties on a file from Windows Explorer by Highlighting the file, Right Clicking and selecting properties, then it should be working in Vault as well.

Hywell,
So you are saying to install this PDF X-Change Viewer? I already have Adobe Pro installed.
From windows explorer, when I right click on a pdf, Below is what I see. None of the tabs have any file properties. With the PDF X-Change, do you see more properties? Do you also see information in the Vault Explorer columns?
Thanks
WIth PDF X-Change I can get more information in Windows Explorer. Also search PDFs from Windows Explorer.
I am able to view the author and title in the grid view after a check in. I installed PDF-Xchange on the server after not being able to get the Adobe iFilter to work.

In order to get this extended information at each client, I have to install the pdf-x viewer at each client station also, correct?
I only installed at the server. I did not install on the client I am using to test against in order to see the columns in the grid.

You need to have the "Windows Search" service installed on the server for the PDF iFilter to work correctly. I can confirm that with the 2013 release of Vault Pro, installing the Windows Search serivce followed by PDF iFilter v9 x64 (as server was x64) works correctly. I cannot comment on either vault pro 2014 or iFilter v11 but can say with certainty that 64 bit server + Vault Pro 2013 Server + Windows Search + iFilter v9 x64 = Working combination.
We could not get property mapping to work with iFilter V11 installed with server 2008 SP2 and Vault Pro 2014
After unistalling V11 and installing iFilter V9 property mapping of PDF files is working properly.

On the Vault server
1. install the Windows Search service
2. download PDFiFilter64installer.zip from the Adobe site and install
3. After installing the PDF iFilter, it is recommended that you set your system PATH environment variable to the "bin" folder of the "Ifilter" installation. For example, from the "Control Panel\System\Advanced\Environment Variables" tab, append to PATH "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe PDF iFilter 9 for 64-bit platforms\bin\" and then restart the computer.
We are using Vault Pro 2014 on a Windows Server 2012.
