Need some assistance - Clients constantly crashing

Hey all,

Need some help with what looks like has been a problem in the past, but as near as I can tell we're the only ones experiencing now.

We're having issues with Vault 2014 SR: SP:1 that started cropping up about 6 months ago, but has recently gotten out of hand. It started out with certain dwf files getting corrupted showing the message "this file type is not supported by the current version of Design Review". As the problem progressed, we started seeing Vault hang when trying to open these files. Now we're seeing Vault hang on most functions, without an error message, forcing a force quit and restart of the program.

My theory is that it may be related to either a .NET update and the "Autodesk Content Service" service hanging up as it may be potentially crashing with another program we have installed, or security settings with McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise.

In any case we're seeing crashes on the order of 3-5 an hour per client.

Our Autodesk reseller, Microsoft, and Dell have all been involved in the troubleshooting with no resolution found. All the settings on everything we have permissions to appear to be correct.

Any guidance you can provide or requests for more details to help troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sam Sather

Are you seeing crash report windows when the system goes down?  If so,... are you submitting them to Autodesk?  They can use these to diagnose the source of the issue, if not the fix right off the bat.  At least it tells them where to look.  For example, if it is a .Net thing, the crash report will tell them that.

Sadly no, the client just hangs indefinitely (an hour and a half is the longest anyone has bothered to let it run to this point). We have to force kill the process to get out, restart the client, and try again.

The funny thing is it is kind of intermittent. At times you can't get anything done, and 15 minutes later you'll be able to crawl through with no issues (other than speed), and then 30 minutes later everything is dead again.

What are you or your clients doing when it exhibits this behavior?  Is it always the same function?

System specs on your server might help some of the gurus on this one.

Clients are attempting any of the following:

1) View in windows

2) Get file

3) Check in File

4) Update Item

5) Open file

and probably more.

I've noticed this error on the Autodesk content service, anyone else familiar with this?:
