Migration ADMS 2010 to ADMS 2014

Dear all,

Whe need to migrate our ADMS server, from the 2010 version to the 2014. I have install the 2010 server with an SQL server 2008 SP2 (the size of the Vault db is about 15 Gb). The 2010 server was patch with Update 1 and Update 2 (ADMS server), the server was migrate with the ADMS 2012, then patched with the Update 1 and Update 2.

The SQL server was patch with SP3. Due corporate rule the password of the SA account was changed at the installation of the SQL Server. Here all is funtionnal, and now when I want to update the server with the 2014 version, I'm not able, I have an error with the SA account and the password, normally I can changed it (as I have already do that for the 2010 and the 2012) but the installer doesn't want to continu, I have the message "Failed connecting to SQL Server". All the SQL services are OK, the server is available by the others tools (SQL Server Managment Studio for example).

Is that someone has already encountered this kind of problem ?

Thanks in advance

During installation of the server you can just "customize" the install and put in the required SA credentials.

If you are still having problems then the easiest thing to do would be to change the SA password (very easy to do).  For that you will need to install SQL Management Studio on the server.   Login to the AutodeskVault instance using "Windows Authentication", locate the sa account and then right-click to access it's properties and from there you will be able to change the password (you should also go under status and make sure that the account isn't locked out) - see attached screenshot.

Once you've changed the sa pasword, best thing to do is just to confirm all is well by exiting out of management studio and then reconnecting to the instance only this time using 'SQL authentication" which will require you to use sa account and password.  If you can connect fine, ADMS should be able to connect too.

Ryan,

In fact, I have put the good password on the configuration for the installation, the password is OK because I am able to login the Management Studio with the SA account, but the message appears "Failed connecting to SQL Server - 'servr=localhost\AUTODESKVAULT;user id=sa;password=*******;' ". I don't really understand this problem...

Thank you

The error says you are trying to connect to "localhost\AUTODESKVAULT".  This means you will be connecting to the instance via TCP/IP instead of shared memory.

If you intended to use TCP/IP you will need to enable TCP/IP as a protocol for SQL to use in the SQL Server Configuration Manager.

However, I recommend you use shared memory when connecting to SQL on the local machine. To do this you need your server setting to be ".\AUTODESKVAULT" or "(local)\AUTODESKVAULT"; or "HOSTNAME\AUTODESKVAULT", where HOSTNAME is the name of the machine.

Dave,

My problem is that I'm not able to fill this form...

I'm proceed to an update from the 2012 version to 2014. When I launch the setup.exe, I select "use the server configuration from the existing installation", so the "Local database 'AUTODESKVAULT' already exists)" is selected, and on the credentials I'm only able to change the password of the SA account. I am unable to select the server and the instance of the SQL. When I put the password of the SA account and select Install, I have always the pop-up 'Failed connecting to SQL Server'.
I am able to connect on the server by the Management Studio local or on a remtore computer...

I don't know if there is a link (because sometimes I don't have this message when I selected the setup.exe on the fr folder) but I have an error message: "Autodesk Installer Error Report", this message appears when I click on the "Autodesk Vault Basic 2014 (server)" for modify the SA account.

Thanks in advance

Steve

So SQL on the previous installation was remote (not on the vault server)?

If this is the case, look at the current Vault server and see if that also has a local AutodeskVault instance installed for some reason.

If that is not being used, uninstall it. (just be sure its not being used)

Then try the installation again with your options.

Hywell,

No the SQL is on the Vault server, I explain just that from another computer with the Managment Studio I am able to connect to the %COMPUTERNAME%\AUTODESKVAULT, and on the vault server I am able to connect using localhost\AUTODESKVAULT... but the vault installer (for the upgrade) isn't able to connect.

Is SQL Mgmt Studio installed on your Vault server as well?  Does that connect without issues?

Yes there's no problem... that's the reason why I don't really understand...
