Migrating from Vault Basic to Professional

Hello Everybody,

We are planning no migrating our existing project which is in Inv 2013-Vault basic 2013

to Inv 2013 - Vault Professional 2013.

Will that be considered as migration ? or is it a simple moving of the database

How easy is that going to be ?

Is that allowed ?

Has anybody done that before  ?

Thanks

Is it just this one project or are you "upgrading" your entire system from Vault Basic to Vault Pro?  As far as Inventor is concerned, its still 2013.  I am sure there are some differences as far as vault is concerned.

We were looking at moving from Vault basic once-upon-a-time. While looking at this, I discovered that once the data has been moved into Vault pro, there was no way to go back to Vault basic (other than restoring a backup).  Not sure if you are doing anything like that or if that is even true with 2013.

Thanks Karthur,

We are planning on moving entirely to Pro. But we have one project team working in Vault Basic and

Other planning on starting in Pro. So we were thinking about moving team one to Vault Pro and let

everyone reap the benefits of Pro :). We are not planning to go back to Vault Basic at least for these projects

As you had done something similar in past. How good was the moving from Vault basic to Vault Pro.

For some technical reasons we need to maintain the same server so we will have to backup - basic

wash out basic and clean install Pro and then import the Basic database into Vault Pro.

Does that sound something familiar which you might have done in the past

Thanks again

We never did make the move.  I was just considering it.

You steps seem like a good path to take, but before I did that, I would want to do a test run on a "spare" server.  Install the Vault Pro on the test server, bring over the data and see how it works.  If every thing is good, then do like you say.

Can you use Vault Pro like you are saying... that is some clients are using basic and others are using Pro?  I know the server will be upgraded, but I was thinking all the clients would be upgraded at the same time as well.

I would get some more instuction from either your reseller or issue a support request.

Our IT guys shared this

His reading is it should be fine with an upgrade

Thanks for that. I will keep you posted as well what happens

on our end

Thanks

vault professional also requires separate licenses to use on top of the suite licenses
