Max Number of Files linked to an item

Can anybody tell me if there is a limit to the number of files that can be linked to an item.

 

We are developing a process where we  wish to have parts which are copied from project to project so the part number will be the same but the filename will change.We may have thousands of files linked to the same item would this be a problem.

What is your goal?

It seems like you are planning to duplicate a lot of data here.

 

If you are just trying to show the file in each project, have you considering using the link feature introduced in 2012?
