Map user defined property to filename

I've created a user-defined property, "Drawing Number". How can I get this to display the actual Autocad drawing filename? I've tried to set up a mapping, but I don't see the relevant field under "File Property" when I try to set up the map.

How can I map the UDP to the filename, and will this property field get populated automatically?.

Try using Component Name.  It should give you the filename, but no extension.

I am trying to do the same thing.  The "CADD Number" is actually the FileName without the extension.

I have used a FileName field within AutoCAD, but I do not see this Field when I try to map properties in Vault,  I also do not see a property called Component Name.

Can this be acheived?

If by field you mean an Attribute within a block, then you need to register that block name within the Vault ADMS Console. It tells the database to look inside blocks of that name & index all the attributes, otherwise they won't appear in the Vault Property mapping drop down list.

Take a look at how to do that here:

No, by FIELD I mean FIELD within AutoCAD.  Not an Attribute on a block.  I am familiar with how to map attributes on a block to UDP's in the Vault.

I was able to map a "DATE CREATED" FIELD within AutoCAD to a Vault UDP.  However, I am trying to map a "FILENAME" FIELD within AutoCAD to a Vault UDP and it simply doesn't show up in the list of mappable properties when trying to map inside Vault.

@emailJC9H5 that link is from a decade ago.

Autodesk have replaced their help system at least twice since then. I highly doubt any of that content exists anymore. Sorry.

Scott,

Thanks for the reply I didn't see the date on that post.

Maybe you can help. How do I get AutoCAD filename to map in Vault?

In my border I have a field which is Filename without extension, this populates my border great. However I now want that same filename to populate a Drawing Number property in Vault??

Hi emailJC9H5.

Is the information you want to map in a block? if so is the block always the same name in all the AutoCAD files you have in your Vault. If this is the case then it is possible to extract the data and write it to a property following this method.

The process is long but once it is done and so long as the block name is always the same in all your DWG files it will extract the data from the block and write it to your User-Defined Property in Vault.

I am assuming the file is an AutoCAD DWG and not an Inventor DWG? Inventor can be done easily in Inventor and then mapped to a property.
