Jorg,

Are you installing the shipping versions of both products? Or are you
installing a pre-release or BETA version of either product (Inventor or
Productstream)? I've run into this problem before when installing against a
pre-release version of Inventor 11, but not when I installed using the
shipping version of both products.

I was able to get both products working either way by manually registering
the InventorVault.dll file in the folder you have listed below in the error.
Navigate to that folder via a command prompt (DOS) and type the following at
the command prompt to manually register the dll:

regsvr32 InventorVault.dll

Thanks,
Bob

no beta installed only the brand new shipped version.
while installing the dll manually the new error message is :
Dllregisterserver in inventorvault.dll failed. Return code was: 0x80070005. ok, and what's next??

That code means "Access Denied". We have seen some problems with registry
access, but it's hard to say exactly what sort of access that message is
referring to. Are you able to register that DLL manually?

Open a command prompt, switch to the Inventor 11\bin directory, and run:
regsvr32 InventorVault.dll

but that's exactly what we did.
it refuses to register no matter how you try it.

Ok, thanks for trying that Jorg..

Can you download regmon from www.sysinternals.com? Run this on your machine,
then try doing a change/repair of your Autodesk Vault 5 client.
Alternatively, with regmon running, you could also try the manual
registration of the InventorVault.dll again.

The intent of this troubleshooting exercise is to capture the regmon log
while you reproduce the problem. If there are registry permissions as Jeff
is asserting, then we should capture those in the regmon log.

After this error pops up when you do either a change/repair or the manual
registering of the DLL, search the regmon log for "denied". You could even
try both.. let both produce the error.. then you will likely have two
occurrences of the "denied" error in the log.

You can use the log entry to determine where there's a permissions problem
in the registry, if that is indeed where the problem is. If nothing is
captured, well.. you probably don't have a registry problem, but something
else is going on.

Hope that helps,
Bob

ok, tried that. the dll seems to register but once the inventorvault.dll is present in the inventor bin folder inventor crashes on start up.

Jorg,

If Inventor is crashing on startup, you should check your graphics card and
driver against the published list of tested and certified cards by Autodesk.
You should be able to access via the Help pulldown menu in Inventor. You can
also try setting the graphics mode to Microsoft GDI Generic mode via
Application Options, then re-test to see if this is related at all to the
graphics card/driver. This is a common problem in Inventor when it is unable
to start a new file or open existing files.

Thanks,
Bob

Try this:

regsvr32 atl.dll
