Installing Vault 5

We have had problems installing vault 5. After installation, we get the message "Vault requires ASP.NET impersonation, which executes with a certain identity. Validation of this entitiy failed because of unknown user name or password". No indication is given as to what this user and password should be.

All directories down the heirarchy from ProgramFiles\Autodesk\........\Web have been given permission rights for"Read&Execute", "list folder contents" and "Read"

Can you post the Vault Manager Log file?
It is located in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Autodesk\VaultServer\FileStore"

AutodeskVault account is not needed to be in administrators and domain admin
groups.

That is correct. It just comes up with the impersonate box and no matter
what I try it tells me incorrect login information or null value.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled three or four times now. I have triple
checked my permissions and the AutodeskVault account setup. I went through
all the policies and made sure everything was available. I even added that
account to my administrators and domain admin groups. Still no success.

I need to get this up or migrate back to Vault 4.

Thanks

Cassidy,

Think you are just missing the Administrators log in for the Vault. Since
it looks like it is an upgrade, you need to know what the Administrators
password that you were using in version 4 to log in.

Can you take a screen shoot of the the dialog you are seeing in Vault
Manager? Maybe this will make sure we are all on the same page.

The latest Vault Manager log file is empty.
So that did not take us anywhere.

You can find more information about this failure in the events log. But
before that turn on the "Audit accounts logon events" and "Audit logon
events" audit policy.
Then run Vault Manager. Then when you get the attached dialog enter
"AutodeskVault" as user name and "Padnammunhoy467" as password.
Select Retry button. Check the event log. You will see some error/failure
events in the Application and Security section.
Then try "your domain\AutodeskVault" as user name and "Padnammunhoy467" as
password and again watch the event log.
These will throw some light.

Post these events on to the newsgroup. Lets see if we find something there.

Also for time being give full access to Everyone in the

P.S. From the server log file I see that some error because database is not
yet migrated.

In your image user name as "\AutodeskVault". Remove the "\" [back slash].
Try.

If that does not work then if your domain name is "XYZ" then enter username
as "XYZ\AutodeskVault".

I tried every combination I can come up. I have treid every domain account in the system with a \ domain\ and just the user.

Same error.

Yes... We figured this one out. The username must specify the domain also in the form:

domain\username
Sample: Company\AutodeskVault
and the password (if you've changed it as I did...) is fould in the asp.net configuration file.
c:\program files\Autodesk\Data Management Server 5\Server\Web\Services\Web.config

When you typed it in with the domain name, make sure you don't put the
backslash at the beginning.
for example, if my domain name is AutodeskHQ, then I would type
AutodeskHQ\AutodeskVault in the username field.

That is how I had it. I put the single slash in my last quote to represent \username and I didn't seperate it well from domain\username.

Eitherway still get the error.

Could it be anything in the webconfig file?

Did you ever modify the web.config in Vault 4 or PS4 (whichever one you had)
for a remote file store or anything? If you modified the web.config and
you've upgrade to Vault 5 on the same server, then you'll need to make those
same modifications in the web.config for a remote file store BEFORE you
attempt to migrate the data or log into Vault Manager.

I'm not sure if a remote file store is in play or if it has anything to do
with your environment/configuration, but it is something that can cause this
particular impersonate dialog to display.

As for trying different combinations in that dialog.. We've found in other
cases that one of these work depending on the server being a domain
controller or not and how the AutodeskVault user is configured in the
web.config file:

domain\AutodeskVault
domain.local\AutodeskVault
AutodeskVault
or some other account as specificed in the web.config and filestore
permissions.

In the examples above you'd change the "domain" to whatever the name of your
domain is assuming the AutodeskVault account is configured as a domain
account as opposed to a local account on the server.

Thanks,
Bob

You posted just as I got it fixed. I gave up trying to make it work with the existing setup so I wiped Windows Server 2003 completly, and then installed it and it. Seems to be working now. Just finished no more than 2 minutes before you posted.

Thanks for the help.
