Going from Vault 2009 to Product Stream

I was about ready to roll out my 2009 upgrade with Vault involved for the first time when after a phone conversion with my reseller and ADSK I realized that plan Vault will not do all I need. So I am looking at going up to Production Stream. So I have a dedicated Vault Server already. I have only installed and configured three workstations to Vista with 2009 looking at the vault so far and I am the only one hitting it to work out the kinks and write usage instructions. So do I have to just start over here to replace the Vault with Product Stream?

I understand that Productstream runs on top of Vault. Get vault working correctly and then install/enable productstream.

I could be wrong but I thought I had heard (2009 version) the vault in Vault and the vault in ProductStream are separate now. Its not a simple install of ProductStream over the top like it was in earlier versions. But I would confirm that.

That is exactly why I posted this thread to try to see where I go from here. I have just started with the 2009 Vault install and if i am just going to have to start over with Productstream I would like to know. Really wish an ADSKer would pick up on this with some info.

The plan to get your users up and running on
vault first will work just fine. You can upgrade from Vault 2009 to
Productstream 2009 once you are ready.  Your reseller can provide more of
the details of what you will need to do to upgrade both the clients and the
server to Productstream.

Here are the basic steps of upgrading:

  1. Create a backup of your vault (just to be
    safe)

  2. Uninstall the ADMS 2009 Server (Vault)

  3. Do not uninstall SQL and leave your file store
    alone too

  4. Install ADMS 2009 Server
    (Productstream)

  5. This will migrate your vault to
    Productstream

  6. Install the Productstream Clients on the
    workstations

If for any reason the steps above didn't work you
could just restore the backup in the Productstream ADMS console.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any
questions.

Craig

You could set up Vault with the settings you want and the back-up that data. When you install Product Stream, restore the data from Vault and those settings will carry through.
