Finally Isolated "Vault Open" Crash

XP Pro, AutoCAD 2008 & Vault 2008 - hardware acceleration enabled (D3D or
OGL) - tool tips turned on

Execute "Open from Vault" Dialog, then hover cursor over down arrow of
directory pulldown - POOF

In a vanilla AutoCAD "open" command, a tool tip box pops up with the full
length of the folder name in the same scenario.

This is 100% repeatable on all our machines, three different Graphics Boards
and numerous driver versions. Obviously a graphics issue, but apparently not
related to individual drivers or boards.

Turning tool tips off is our current fix, but they are kind of handy for
some of our designers.

Is there anything Autodesk can or will do to address this?

Have you treid repairing the installation of Vault Explorer from Control
Panel>Add\Remove Programs?

Have you applied ADMS 2008 SP1 to both the client and the server?

Mike,

When you guys installed did you disable your antivirus?

Your issue reminds me of when I saw someone who couldn't use the edit drop down menu of Inventor 8 without Inventor crashing, because they had left McAfee running when they deployed it.

If you did leave the AV on, a quick way to fix this might be to perform a repair install on both Inventor and the Vault with your AV shut down.

Actually, I'm sure we did not disable NAV during install - never thought of
it. I created the deploys, then delegated someone else to go around and
execute them all. I'm assuming that based on the couple of responses here,
it's an issue only we are seeing. This would be one common factor I could
attribute to all our installations. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

Thanks for the input.

Hi Mike,

We are unable to reproduce this issue that you mentioned. Would be good for us to know if you have any luck with upgrading to SP1 and repairing your installs?

In fact, we do not get any crash nor tooltips when hovering the cursor over the down arrow of the Open from Vault dialog and for this we have log a defect ID 979408 to address it.

Also, are you able to share with us what are your graphics cards?

Thanks

We did try to repair, and uninstall and re-install with AV disabled with no
success.

We have demonstrated this error with 100% reproduceability on machines with
Quadro 1500, GeForce 7800 GTX, Radeon X1300, and GeForce FX Go5700 graphics
adapters. All with identical results. I could gather driver versions if that
would help. Also, I would be happy to arrange a remote session to
demonstrate the error. Based on the responses from yourself and others it
appears that this is a problem unique to our organization. We do incorporate
several third party addons such as CADWorx from COADE. One thing I have not
yet confirmed is if we experience the same error on a machine with AutoCAD
and Vault, but not the CADWorx addin.

As mentioned, the two solutions we have are to turn hardware accelleration
off, or turn tool tips off. Turning hardware accelleration off is not a
valid option.

Any further support or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the CADWorx addons on all the machines that is exhibiting this issue? If yes, I'd like to request that you try de-installing the addons on one of the machine to see if this issue is still reproducible?

We will be testing on a few machines that do not have CADWorx installed.

mike,

which version of cadworx is it, and have you tried calling you cadworx/autocad reseller to see if they can help you troubleshoot it.

CadWorx 2008 - we're still doing some troubleshooting to confirm precisely
what causes the problem, but CadWorx seems to be the common denominator
here. Now that we have a bit of a work around it's not as much of an
emergency anymore, so we address it as we have time, in between the BIG
fires.

Thanks for the input.

CAD worx is not the common denominator.

We are having the same exact issue here on only a single computer. None of our systems have CadWorx installed.

I have looked into the "file within vault and without an extension issue", but as I stated before it only happens on one computer and there are no missing extensions in our vault.

I could use some help with this issue as soon as possible.

The tool tip on or off work around fixes our isse as well, however the user of the computer in question cannot work without tool tips being turned on.

We are currently looking into the service pack and repair of the instal and will have additional information shortly.
