Files default to 'security override' even though folder is object security

Hey all, having an issue with Vault 2014 professional

I have set up object based security on the folder structure in the vault. However when a file is checked in, it automatically checks in with security mode set to 'System or overridden security' and with the 'security override' box checked.

We can't have this. I need the files to inherit whatever permissions are set up on the containing folder.

Why does Vault do this and how do I fix it?

Thanks!

Are you using Lifecycles?

If so, Lifecycle states can also apply an ACL on a file, which overrides the inherited security from the folder.
