Error The underlying connection was closed (Delete Item)

One of our user has reported some issue on creating an Item.

Now Item is present in Item Master with no Number.

If try open it - "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

If try to delete - Error "The underlying connection was closed: A connection that

was expected to be kept alive was closed by the server".

How this could be fixed?

Vault Pro 2014 build 18.101.3.10

Have you tried closing/restarting Vault Pro?

If so, this would best be handled by opening a support case, as we would either need

a. a back-up of your Vault or

b. steps to consistently reproduce the problem (I'm guessing this is not available)

to investigate further.

I guess you mean restarting ADMS (not client), right?

PS: Case number is 09968023

No, I did mean client.  I wanted to make sure that something didn't get goofed up on the client side that would be rectified by simply restarting.

Of course client was restarted

Ok.  If you can attach a Vault back-up to the case, we will be able to investigate further.

Alas, I'm not allowed to. No support in such case?

Hmm... that's unfortunate.  For us to make progress we typically need :

  • a way to reproduce the problem, (most helpful)
  • a backup to see what the results of the problem were,
  • logs to give us some clues of what happened

Can you at least give us the logs http://crackingthevault.typepad.com/crackingthevault/log-file-locations.html?

If there is any other info that you or your colleage can provide us to give us a hint, that will help as well.

Without some clue, we are unlikely to make progress unless someone internally already knows how to reproduce your issue (unlikely).

Several days have passed since issue date.

Do you mean you need:

1. Logs for all these days

2. Log for day of issue beginning

3. Just today's log

?

If you have logs from around the time the issue started occuring (and you can indicate around when the issue occurred) that would be helpful.  Also, logs at a time when the user gets the current symptoms (the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object.").

Providing timeline information that correlates the logs to events that have occurred will be helpful (if you have it).

This kind of issue would probably be very easy to get to the bottom of with a Vault Backup.  Is there anything we can do to help allow you to give us a backup?  NDA?  Something else?

At this point, I don't think the continuing discussion is helpful to general forum audience.  Would you like to take the conversation offline with me in email? I'll send you a private message with my email address.

Things that I have done to try to clear errors with Items:

If the Item is new and doesn't have revision history attached to it:

Change the item number to something else, break the link to the file, purge the history (requires admin role), make a new item.

If there is revision history on the item and you don't want to lose it, try breaking the link to the file and then reassigning items.

Non-applicable for me.

Error 1321 if attempt to edit
Item.

Good luck to you. If you think about it post the solution when you find it.

I thought I had seen all of the errors that the item master had to offer 🙂

FYI Issue was solved in December by applying several specially created SQL scripts provided by Autodesk Support specialist.

Sorry for resurrecting the old thread, but we are having this same "underlying connection" issue while attempting certain Copy Design tasks. Is this script info something you could share or PM to me?

Those scrips were created specially for our database, even if I'd kept it there is no chances to fit your database.
I hate when other answer like this but ... In this particular case you need to apply to Vault tech support.

Don't forget to mention that such issue they once have solved (case # 09968023)

No worries. That's totally understandable. I just came across the issue this morning, and looking up my options. Thanks for the info.
