Demoting Domain users - search index must be rebuilt

Hi,

Quick questions. Autodesk Vault Professional 2012. Full replication, 1 publisher, 3 subscribers. Single Vault.

We are changing domains over several weeks and as such are demoting Domain Users to local accounts.  They will be promoted to a new Domain in a few weeks.

During demotion the following message is received: "The search index must be rebuilt because users or groups have been renamed. Unexpected search results may be returned until the search rebuild is complete. Rebuild Search Indexes is available on the Tools menu in the server console."

I have 2 questions:

1. Whilst understanding the search index must be rebuilt as soon as practical, what are the implications prior to it being rebuilt?  Are ther data integrity risks or just incomplete searches for users, and

2. Does the index rebuild need to be completed on all servers, or just the publisher? If the latter, are there network considerations as the servers are phyically remote on relatively slow bandwidth.

Thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Data integrity is not at risk - this is strictly related to search results on the user names. So you could hold off on rebuilding until the domain work is complete without problems (assuming you can work around the search issue). The rebuild will need to occur on each ADMS server as they all maintain their own indexes. The main issue with latency is that the rebuild will take longer on those other servers - searching is still available during a rebuild however so this shouldn't be a huge issue.
