Copy Design - won't copy assembly - makes new version instead

I am trying to use copy design to copy an .idw and it's top level .iam. After much clicking to change all files below the iam to "reuse" and selecting "include children only", I get what is shown in the attached screen shot. Then, after clicking "ok" I find that the new iam was not created but the existing assembly was "versioned". Is this operator error? Is there something wrong with my workflow?

Thanks,
Mike

Do you have all the latest service packs and relavent hotfixes installed? I
believe there was a hotfix issued for Copy Design that might fix your
problem.

Thanks Ray,

Yes I believe that I have all service packs and hotfixes installed. I could not find a hotfix related to copy design for Vault explorer (client), Vault manager, or Inventor. Is there one I am overlooking? All are loaded except for TS1054281 (keep checked out issue) for Vault Manager - I need to do that latter when I can have everyone logout of Vault. Any other ideas?

Copy design was not designed for the idw to be the target?

Would this also explain why I can use copy design to copy A.idw that contains A.iam to make B.idw that contains B.iam (B is a copy of A) and the result looks good in Vault Explorer (B.idw uses B.iam). BUT when I try to open B.idw from Vault, inventor wants to resolve A.iam - I must delete or move A.iam from my workspace to force the resolve link dialog box to appear and choose the new B.iam?? Is this the intended use? How can Vault report that B.idw uses B.iam but inventor looks for A.iam??

Here I go again having a discussion with myself. I tried copy design on A.ipt copying A.idw. Renamed files to the default, A(2).ipt and A(2).idw. Results look good in VE, A(2).idw uses A(2).ipt. BUT when I open A(2).idw with inventor it is looking for A.ipt. Is this a bug. Is this not the intended use? Does anyone else have this problem?

Screen shot shows VE reporting that 02-2899-E-100B(3).idw uses 02-2899-E-100B Finger Back Guide 1 inch Steel & magna (3).ipt and Inventor opened from vault 02-2899-E-100B (3).idw and resolved 02-2899-E-100B FINGER back guide 1 inch steel & MAGNA.ipt. which is the original ipt not the new one! Is it "as designed" to have to force the resolve link box to appear by deleting or moving the old file and then pick the new file?

OK, Started over. Tried copy design on other idw's and ipt's. They all worked. Tried copy design on the files the would not resolve correctly now they work!!! I have no idea what changed.

However, I tried to use copy design on a idw of a large iam as my first post in this thread says and it still does not work. It makes a new version instead of making a copy.

Something is not right with the copy design tool.

Guess I ned to log an official request for support. I need help with this ASAP.

Typically the issues you will see when the idw is the target is some
"apparent" random changing of the .idw state when you change the .iam state.
It is trying to keep them in sync to a certain extent.

I am not aware of the issue you describe below. I do know that there are
issues with "Grand Children" and Idw's. For example, we had issues with
children of A.iam not getting updating correctly in the .idw for A.iam. I
will try your specific scenario and see if I can reproduce the same
behavior.

The short answer to your question is, no it is not "as designed". The
references should have been updated correctly. Vault 4.0 does have some
issues with .idw's and updating references. However, I *thought* what you
are attempting did work. Maybe someone else can comment on whether it works
for them or not.
