Checking ASP Status

I have been looking around and I cannot find any help on this topic. I am trying to install Autodesk Vault 2011 because I am trying to access the revision/lifecycle feature aspect of it. I want to be able to go back to previous versions of an assembly in inventor. I have a shortcut on my desktop that is called Autodesk Vault 2011 and I think that that is the Autodesk Vault Explorer-which is what I want to use. I don't actually want a full blown server that the Vault provides because only 1 person is going to be using the server. So I tried looked up how to install the Vault Server and I tried to install it but I got this error:

ASP.Net Test installation was unable to find 3 file(s). Could not find the following files: C:\Program Files\Autodesk Test\TestASPNetStatic.txt, C:\Program Files\Autodesk Test\TestASPNet.aspx, andC:\Program Files\Autodesk Test\TestASPNet.asmx

Any suggestions?

Please try manually installing the precheck files by executing:

%Media%\x86\en-us\edmPrechecksTestASPNet.msi

And running the prechecks again.

I double clicked D:\x86\en-us\edmPrechecks\TestASPNet.msi and a loading bar poped up. A message followed a little afterwards reading: "Failed to read IIsWebs table. (-2147023728)"

I restarted the Setup and got the same error.

What OS are you trying to install to?

Is the UAC component disabled?  If not, this may be causing the issue

Is IIS already installed and running before you run our installation?

If not go ahead and install it through Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Add/remove Windows Components

IF it is already installed, uninstall it, then reinstall it.

I reinstalled IIS and then got a new error stating:ASPX file failed to run at URL: http:// localhost/TestASP/TestASPNet.aspx. I looked at the help file and re-register the ASP.Net filters by doing this on cmd: c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis -i -enable. I re-tested and I got the same error.

With the prechecks open, can yuo open http://localhost/testasp/testaspnet.aspx in Internet Explorer and let us know what appears on the screen?

Try running the aspnet_regiis.exe command with only -i as the parameter.

so aspnet_regiis.exe -i

The run the command IISRESET and test again.

For anyone suffering from this problem, the resources here were helpful but they didn’t refer to SharePoint which may be a common contributor to issues. This was around Vault professional 2013, so I imagine there are similar issues with other products. I also had the ASP Status check problem without SharePoint, so it happens in a leaner environment as well. The solution was to gather the comments and in summary:

In IIS7 (select the host server) - ISAPI/CGI - ensure ASP.NET v4..... Is allowed (you may have multiple v4 builds, allow them)

In application pools ensure DefaultAppPool is started and is V4.0 classic. Change as necessary.

Try starting the default web site. This may give a warning. This prompted the biggest fix for all of this. I got a warning the website could not be started because another service was using port 80.

Change its bindings to port 8080.

Ensure you have firewall rules for port 8080. I named them VaultProPort8080.

Try restarting the default web site.

Install Vault but only SharePoint integration first (if you are using it). Restart the install and in the vault config at the start screen uncheck the default IIS setting and change to port 8080. In the ADMS checks it was clean and the issue was resolved.

There was not enough commentary on the possible conflicts of ports and this burned a lot of time. However, all sorted out now.

I am no expert but I felt this issue must have caused a lot of time loss of others so here is my contribution.
